I have a set of Krauser that have lost thier luster. I would to get them back to looking good. They are sound, it is just a cosmetic issue. Has anyone had good results painting these? If so, what paint and process did you use? Thanks.

The inner (smooth) part of mine was weathered. I painted them with NAPA/Martin Senour Adhesion Promoter and Vinyl Semigloss Black. Both are in large size rattle cans. 2 years on and still looks fine.

The the grained sides, I used a product called "Forever Black" that also did wonders for weathered turn signals, instrument pod, dash pad, etc.

As always, YMMV!

maybe yours are beyond it, and paint's the only answer, but I've had pretty good success w things like Armor All-type shine and clean products.

I just wipe mine down with Back to Black from Mother's. let it dry then buff with the inside of an old white sweat sock. Looks almost as good as new.

OH MY GOD:nono How can you do this:sick Worn out Krauser bags that lost their luster are a sign that your Airhead was ridden and is a "badge of honor". Do not paint them! It is normal that their color fades!

We don't need no stinkin' badges. Just nice looking bags.:D

As odd as it may sound, I've had very good luck with smearing (of all damned things) peanut butter on the hard rubber bit on my old Benz cars. It won't last forever, but its cheap and will hold through rain, snow, etc. for about 6+ months. Try it on an obscured piece first. YMMV.

....oh, just leave it on for 30 minute or so...lest you have the neighborhood hounds following close on your tail.

The Krausers on my Toaster are white, otherwise there's gotta be a good joke in there with toaster and peanut butter. But I digress...

Also, the Benz clubbers rave about Black Wow (http://www.autogeek.net/black-wow-trim-restorer.html), but I have not used it.

:laugh The thread was worth starting just to read your post. I'll give it a try. Even if it doesn't help, it will put me in a good mood while I am stuck in traffic.

If your bags are really sun faded and Armoral won't do, try Krylon Fusion Paint for Plastic. You won't be disappointed. Proper prep (clean with mineral spirits etc.) will result in a nice semi shiny set of bags.

A guy on advdirer used "crinkle paint" on his speedo/tach housing. It looks pretty good.

I'll try one of the paints (if the peanut butter doesn't work).:D Any primer?

The Krylon Fusion doesn't need primer. It bonds to the plastic quite nicely. If it works for my white, it should certainly work for your black. In fact, this stuff works so well, I'm considering doing a big Motorsport stripe on my spare (kinda' ratty) white bags, if I can find the right colors.

Black comes in three finishes: gloss, flat, and satin. I would use satin on these bags.

FWIW, the white Krausers, and the Motorsport (Polizeiweiß) are not pure white. The Krylon Dover White is a very close match.

I seen Penetrol brighten fiberglass, they use it on boat, and camper tops quite a bit and brings back the color.

Cheap easy try.
