I'm picking up a 2004 1150RS around a hour north of Madison at the end of May. I thought I might take the long route home to NYC, crossing the upper peninsula of Michigan on routes 35 and 2, and coming down Rt 23 along Lake Huron. Then using interstates until reaching PA, and taking Route 6 to Scranton, then interstate the rest of the way home.

So, my questions are: are 3 days enough for this route? Any feedback on this route, or portions thereof? And what do you recommend for a scenic route from Beaver Dam, WI to Marinette, WI ?

Thanks for your inputs!

I was in a similar discussion a month or two ago on a route like this, any problem going into Canada, or rather not? Sue Rihn-Manke can probably help you with the scenic route, OH SUE!

If I went thru Canada, then I'd miss Rt. 6 in PA.

Three Days is plenty. I came home from the Rally in West Bend a few years ago, via the Mackinac Bridge, Route 949 in PA and a mix of Interstates in a little over 2.5 days.

Three days is indeed plenty. I haven't taken your route, so I can't comment. I make a run every year from VT to MN and back. For the outbound leg, I ride to Ottawa, take 17 to Sault Ste. Marie and 2 to 8 across WI. For the return, I ride to Milwaukee and catch the ferry Eastbound to Muskegon, then to Hamilton and then pick up 104 Eastbound then I90 to I87 and home to VT. As you have cleverly determined, skipping Chicago is a good thing. Ignore all "it ain't so bad" comments. Life's too short. Skip Chicago and enjoy the ride.

The route I was talking about on a different thread would read more like Buffalo, Toronto, Owen Sound up to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, across the ferry to Manitoulin Island, then up to 17 and to Ste St Marie. Maybe too much tourin around for 3 days.
Mischlers is my dealer (Beaver Dam) if that's where you're getting the bike!

Sounds like a fun ride........ The key to all of the best rides is to stay off the main highways... but then, you already know that. :D

Since you could "slab" this in one long day, I would think that three days along the round-about way you described would be adequate. Carpe Diem!
