There is a little bit of a leak from the rear of the transmission, right where the cup and is and the rod goes in. There is a bit of an over-fill right now in the transmission fluid itself. Is this a time consuming repair? easy fix or not? Should I just ride ride ride and keep a watch on the fluid level or should I be concerned and get the repair done asap? thanks for the input.

Make sure the clutch cable is adjusted correctly. If the lever at the gearbox is too far back, it can't put any pressure on the back of the boot, and it leaks. Occaisionally, a bit of sealant is needed between the lever and the boot.

Not sure if your 91 is made the same as my 85 but there should be a seal around the clutch actuator rod to prevent oil from flowing down this rod and onto the clutch. If this is true I would do like Lostboy said and check cable adjustment and ride the darn thing.

The rubber boot is the seal. If the clamp is tight and it still leaks, then replace the boot.

Thanks I got the rubber boot in hand. I'll try the clutch adjustment, not sure I know how to do this well, but will figure it out. It is good to know I can ask simple questions here and keep on ridding.:bikes

OK - start with I forgot the spec and am on the road so can't look it up, but let me explain what you are doing.

Step 1 is to adjust the knurled knob up at the handlebar so the bottom end of the cable extends beyond the bracket the sheath nests in a certain dimension. The purpose of this adjustment is to locate the barrel on the lower end of the cable so that the lever on the transmission centers parallel to the back of the transmission case which is perpendicular to the clutch rod. This is intended to minimize side thrust on the throwout bearing assembly inside the back of the transmission.

Step 2 is to loosen the 13mm locknut and then adjust the 10mm (head) adjuster screw on the lever on the transmission so that there is the specified gap between the hand lever and its housing. 5mm I think but maybe 7mm. This provides free play and a comfortable lever position.

When I do this bottom adjustment I adjust the adjuster bolt and when I have the free play set I pull the clutch fully. This keeps pressure on the bolt which prevents the bolt from turning while I tighten the locknut.
