Has anyone else been watching the Olympics like a madman? I've had a little bit of time off this week and have had it on while doing stuff around the house. My girlfriend even got me the official Olympic hat at LS Ayres where she works so I could wear it while I watch. I think she's starting to think I'm a super-dork.

You forgot a poll entry:

Televised sports? Who cares? Get out and go for a ride!

I've watched a bit... You have to go online to the NBC olympics site to check the schedule if you want to see anything other than swimming or gymnastics. I checked out some of the fencing and shooting events. The USA women did quite well in both by the way...

Actually, shooting was on yesterday morning on MSNBC, and I believe I caught the end of fencing on BRAVO yesterday morning as well. Like I said, I'm a dork.

It hasn't been so much as sitting and watching the events as it has been doing other stuff around the house (that I just moved into) and catching bits and pieces. I feel as if I have to defend my manhood or something here. :) FWIW it's also been pouring rain here all day.

Yeah, the women's beach volleyball has been quite the distraction. From what I understand some of the players are pissed off because during the breaks in service they have bikini clad dancers entertaining the fans. :dunno

Tivo wathcing...

Set the Tivo to record the broadcasts, and then fast forward through the boring stuff to watch just the stuff I want to watch.

Plus watching with the wife is a good thing. Spend time watching with her, and then I can go ride all I want...

Watching it a lot. It's sports, it's on TV no matter what time it is, you've got a lot of variety...perfect.

Watched the U.S. girl win a fencing gold medal. Of course, fencing is almost like "Lazer Tag", with all the devices, but still interesting if you hadn't seen it before.

Least favorite event? Gymnastics Trampoline...

Favorite event? Too many to list...

I love the Olympics.:clap

I am not a big fan of sports on TV
BUT - I do enjoy the Olympics....Summer or Winter. I always try to catch as much of them as I can.
I must admit to getting a bit tired of the swimming/gymnastics stuff. But I caught the fencing win and it was cool to see people win medals (no matter what sport) who weren't supposed to.
I get tired of the "expert" commentaries and delight when events show them to be full of s*&^. "Well there is absolutely no way the Romanians can recover from this....."
I also tire of their attempts to analyze how an athlete must be feeling. Maybe I should return to my stoner daze of watching tv with my favorite music on.

I just walked in and caught some of the synchronized swimming. That is some weird stuff. How exactly does one get into synchronized swimming?

Boot to the head? Soggy grapenuts? Parents divorced early and unforgiveness reigns? Too much exposure to loud pipes? Lack of indoor plumbing? Fear of attack birds? Shortness of pants?
Involvement in syncronized swimming has so many factors to consider.

Typically it first involves you going to the pool and jumping in the water with other people. After that it is losing your freedom to think... you will be assimiliated.

It is not Soggy Grape Nuts, it is lack of motorcycling that causes this calamity.

I think he oughta be hung. If he had done that to an American, I'd even jerk the rope. I know, I know, tell me I'm a bad boy! Ok, put him in prison and toss the key, how's that?

Same guy wandered out on some race track in an attempt to mess with that. Maybe if he does that again, then the drivers won't work so hard to miss him.....

That whole scene was not funny at all.I am not a mean guy,but I hope that by the time the GREEK police finished booking him,he has an owie on every inch of himself.

I would hope the IOC would grant the Brazilian-who finished 3rd and showed a ton of grace doing it- a second gold.He sure looked like a winner.

The IOC granted him a special medal. When the Brazilians filed a complaint, the International Olympic Committee declined to honor that reasonable request. Instead, it gave de Lima a medal designating exceptional sportsmanship and Olympic spirit named for the founder of the Modern Games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin.

Me personally would rather get an award for sportsmanship for the games, than a gold medal. Yes, it is not as much endorsement money - but he probably boosted his visibity already. The fact that out of the hundreds of participants in the games this award is given to only one person each games. There is not a silver or bronze. It is a winner only award.

If I was awarded that, I would be happy to know that I was the one deemed to represent the ideals of sports.

Sorry to wax Bob Costas on ya....

LUST. Pure, simple lust. Nothing more, nothing less during the women's field hockey match between the Netherlands and Germany. I think that there may have been a total of 3 women on the field that I wouldn't have run off with on the spot. Gorgeous, fit women in skirts chasing each other with sticks. It was almost pornographic in its glory.

I've been disappointed at the coverage. For one, I think there
might be other competitors than the US at these games? But
you might not know that from the coverage.

Fringe sports are often over on MSNBC or Bravo or on real late.

One thing I would have liked to see was Star Class sailing. I met
Paul Cayard once. And to see him racing Stars would be pretty
cool.

I'd probably watch more if the coverage were more complete
and better reflective of the event and not the US participation.

izzat Kbasa next to the crazy priest??? Are we to assume that our very own Kbasa is the personal trainer, body guard, booking agent, spiritual master, and bail bondsman to the Loony Priest? Ohmigod. no wonder he didn't post much during the Olympics - he was over there getting his guy ready. (How terrible - I wonder if Tina knows. Well, I certainly won't tell her - far be it from me to spread gossip.....)
