I've written before in the forum and have another question. My 1996 R1100R consistently shuts downs at 7,200 rpm, although the redline is supposed to be 7,800 and I can't believe a BMW tach could be that far off. I can't find this issue addressed in any shop manuals I've looked at, and have searched the MOA forum without luck. Anyone know about this or where to look for info?

Well if the speedo is anywhere between 10 -15% off as some have suggested, I don't see why the Tach couldn't be just as far off. IF you are the curious type, you can get a timing light that reads RPMs and simply hook it up to one of your spark leads and PRESTO! It will give you a dead on readout of your true RPMs.

Is it still making power? I usually try and shift so the next gear starts our right at the torque peak.

Thanks for the valuable input. I know someone to loan me a timing light like you described. The bike is pulling fine to redline in each gear, just shutting down as the tach hits 7,200 rpm. I thought maybe there was a setting somewhere that controlled the shut-down rpm.
