Hi,
I don't quite know how to ask complete strangers for help so I'll just jump in and hope that I don't sound rude.
I'm looking for someone aggreable to let me park my car/trailer at their place for up to 2 weeks while the S.O. and I explore N.M. and Colorado.
I know I can check the Anonymous book but I hate to cold call someone and put them on the spot. With that in mind, I thought I'd check here first.
We'd like to follow the May 2008 BMW ON story "The Enchanted State" and use that as a guide to our wanderings. So we are thinking Ruidoso, Capitan, or Alamogordo areas would make a great starting area.
I don't want to sound picky, but I'd prefer someone that is going to be around and could keep an eye on our car/trailer? It would be sometime around June 1 - June 12 or 13th.
I can bring :drink from Wisconsin to sweeten the :deal
Thanks!

Jeff: You can always ask the hotel you may probably start out of. I have done that in the past, and it worked.
Have you tried Lagavulin?
............or a local Dealer with a huge parking lot and security as in *dogs*...!

We're going to camp and we're excited about it. Hotel if we have to.
I like Lagavulin but I have to go easy on the pricier drinks. I have a son who can get discounts, but it's still an expensive habit. The Islay malts (which include Lagavulin) are my favorites. Sometimes I really love that medicine, peaty flavor. Other times, not so much.
Have you tried 15 yr. Laphroaig? I'm kind of partial to it, but I have found that whatever I eat can change my taste impression of it. Which holds true for most everything I suppose.
For instance, I do not brush my teeth after dinner if I'm going to have a few fingers YUCK! (Bratwurst is a no-go too) :bottle

Have fun riding around in that area. My father lives in Alamogordo and used to have a place up in Cloudcroft. He will not be around during that time as his "part-time" job takes him out of state. I'm heading out that way in July to go riding with him. I really like the ride up to Cloudcroft from Alamogordo. The ride form Cloudcroft to Ruidoso is nice too. He used to live on 244.

Thanks for all the info. I'm taking notes...:eat
Normally I'd just ride out, but with a pillion I thought I'd put the kendon trailer to use. There are two days of bad road from Mn to the good stuff. And while its not to tough heading into an adventure, going home on 2 days of bad road is always a drag.
Guess I'll get out the Anonymous Book and see if we have any members in that area

Chivas-My kid abhors it because it's not a true single malt, but its my "go-to" Scotch
The other top Shelf stuff is for once in awhile and road trips

Jeff - You're welcome to stay and park your vehicle and trailer at my cottage in Steamboat. Just a couple of little wrinkles. First off, Steamboat is in the mountains in the northwest part of the state. It is two-to-four mountain passes from New Mexico (lots of twisties-lots of fun-lots of camping). Secondly, I'm leaving for a six week moto trip to Canada/BMW Rally on June 10 so your stuff would be unguarded for a couple of days. That's not a big deal because it's pretty secure around here. Let me know. Steve

Awesome place! I loved it there. Especially the General Store. Also the Lodge is great. Can't think of the name right now. It is a "haunted place". One of the greatest roads leads from Cloudcroft to the solar observatory.
Yep, been there, done that, except not on a bike. Will do so this summer. I have ridden a 4-wheeler up the side of the mountain from Alomogordo up to the top of the mountain. That takes some time and provides some awsome views. In the summer, hang glider guys ride up to the top of the mountain and jump off and land in the Kmart parking lot down in Alamogordo. It is also cool to watch the F117 Stealth fighters training with the little Cessna type plane chasing them.

BMWMOA members are the greatest! We have a spot to park our cage and trailer and it looks like all systems are go.
Thanks for all the views and P.M.s. Without this offer my lovely pillion would have probably suffered through the two day 1100 mile drone on the back of my GS silently, but it would not have enhanced her vacation get-away. What woman, we'll be spending our 25th anniversary on a motorcycle...:thumb
