View Full Version : fuel leak at pump plate
Just happened, started dripping all on its own.. About 6 K miles after filter replacement. Took apart and reassembled 3 times. Just put Permatex #2 on O ring and reassembled. Its drying now. Am I screwing up? That stuff works with gas and is designed for flexible gaskets. I can't get an O ring anytime soon, and I actually couldn't find anything wrong the it anyway. 1150GS

I have seen comments on this board that say you have to use a dried out gasket, or it will leak. Apparently, gas makes it either swell or shrink, I don't know which. I have used new gaskets with no problem. I suppose you could try accelerating the drying out process for your existing gasket ...

My hunch is that you can mess with that for two or three, or more days trying to make it seal, or call a dealer and have them send you one. I'd call a dealer.
Well it sealed up fine and I am on the road. Up to 50 today with sun so can't waste that. I will order a new O ring and put it in when I get a leak or replace the fuel filter. The dealer installed O ring seemed too short and just needed some help. Now if the gas or additives in it don't eat the P #2 will be fine. One thing I did note is that the sticky stuff held the O ring in position very nicely through installation of the plate. Question is tho, Will I have difficulty getting it apart? I doubt that I am the first to tackle this problem this way. Tomorrow I'm gonna heat up my RD 400 and have some fun.

I just replaced my pump and filter as well as the clamps and the o-ring
I had to reopen the tank to verify everything a week later and after I checked everything the o-ring was too big to fit the groove.
I ended up putting the old one back in.
Nothing wrong with it but the new O-ring was streached too much to give a good seal.
Long and short of it is if it is still supple, not crimped (out of round), and it fits the groove it should proviede a good seal.

I alternate between 2 for that reason
