What is the proper way to check the oil level in the 1150RT rear drive and how often should this oil be changed?:thumb

With the bike on level ground on the centerstand the oil should be to the bottom of the threads of the fill hole.
BMW specifies the oil to be changed at 12,000 mile intervals. I change mine every 6,000 so I can check the magnet for debris.

Also, don't spin the wheel while you're checking or filling, the oil level will appear low.

+2 on the 6K mile change! Checking that magnet is important to keep an eye on things.

I have switched to 6,000 miles also for the change. I am also adding moly additive. With my next change I am going to start doing oil analysis on the lube. With the number of rear drive failures, I feel it is prudent. It also may give the members good data if I should have a failure.
