Ok,
Hope this does not sound ridiculous, but here goes,
I have a 94 RS 1100 which is absolutely perfect for my daily commute and numerous weekend escapes. I am a one bike guy ( 1 bike, one wife) I would not trade her (them) for anything.

But....

I also pine for the opportunity of some off the beaten track fire-roads and desolate dirt roads. Nothing technical or fast.

What if....

I figured out an alternate wheel set (GS wheels?) and even a removable bash plate that I could use on those occasions.

Opinions anybody?

I have a very nice 94 R1100RS. I never recommend riders ride it as a GS. That said I have riden it 100's of miles on gravel roads in the Ar. Ozarks. U decide what's best for U.

You could consider mounting a tire people use for their GS's if sizes are available to fit the RS, this could give you more stability on dirt roads. People make it sound like these tires work great on the road also

I also have a 94 R1100RS and have ridden a bit of dirt roads and think better traction would make it more enjoyable. Let us know what you try.

The cast alloy wheels are pretty fragile (* I know from hard experience)
Does anybody know of spoked wheels that would fit?

The RS can be ridden off road, but is not the best configuration for doing so. Its not practical to stand on the pegs which is nearly essential even on gravel at times and the suspension is not made for rough going. It can be done when required, but I wouldn't want to take my RS anywhere near some of the places my GS is so much fun to ride. Keep the RS for what it is best at. Stick with the one wife, but add another bike. It will be simpler in the end. Does not have to be a GS, any dual purpose bike will work.

If you're determined to convert the RS to a GS, the GS wheels from the same era of bike might work.

A second wheelset, one for the commute and a second for the gravel. Bear in mind, My intention is to take it relatively easy, I just want to have some options.

Does anybody have a definitive word on a same-era GS (or other) wheelset that may work?
