I recently picked up an '89 RT. The fairing has been removed however the supports off the headlamp are still installed. I would like to convert this to an "S". Anyone done this? If so, can I use any /7 headlamp shell and brackets? I'd prefer to have the ignition on the side of the headlamp. Also, will the "S" wiring harness plug into the bike's wiring harness? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I have not done this conversion, but ...
note that 89 fork tubes are larger diameter than /7 –
headlight 'ears' may not fit.

If I remember correctly BMW built a plain R100 monolever for the USA market in 1990. This might help in building a S version. May have been called the R100 Classic.

You can use the headlight and turn signal mounts from an R80 monolever-they have the same forks as your R100RT. ?6-?7 mounts will probably work, too. You'll have to find a place to mount the ignition switch, and the easy way is to use an R80 handlebar "impact pad".
You will have to modify the wiring slightly. I would zip-tie the wiring harness side of the RT fairing harness to the main harness, putting the multi-pin plug under the fuel tank.
