When looking on Max BMW's microfiche I find the handle bars for my '95 R1100R listed as "heated". This leads me to assume that I can install heated grips without replacing the bars already installed on my bike. It makes sense to me for BMW to make a handle bar that would accept either heated or non-heated, but I would like to hear from someone who knows.

A set of grips just came up on flea bay. Your bars will work, but you'll need the relay too.
Hello. There are two different handlebars. The "heated" bars are drilled out to accept the grip wiring to run within it. The "unheated" bars are not drilled out. It most certainly does make good sense to use one handlebar for both but that's not the way it is. I'm not sure if you could just drill the "unheated" bars to make them "heated". Hmmmm, now I'm curious. Good day.

Yes, the heated grips on ebay are the reason for my question. However, more research on the beemerboneyard site suggests that BMW decided to make handle bars for both heated and unheated grips. Typical from folks who like to make simple things complicated. Now if simply drilling a hole through which to route the wire will solve this, I'm able to do that. Has anyone done this?

Sometimes BMW doesn't know what it is doing - or even what it did!!!!!
A while back I decided I needed heated grips for my 1997 F650 Funduro. So I bought the heated grip "kit" which included the switch, the grips, the wiring, and a handlebar with a hole drilled in it.
Great - except the routing for the wiring is external to the bars. The wiring at the grips is OUTSIDE the handle bars - not internal as on other models.
