I'm usually out there on the Vintage list but I have a question for those with a more modern inclination.

I want to hook up a Nav.3 gps to my 12 volt converted R69,[It's my trip bike], On the power cable I have a red[pos.] and a black[neg.] but I also have a purple.
Does anyone know the function of the purple?

I wrote to Garmin, and they said "BMW designs the docking bracket and the harness, so they can't say for sure, but they would guess it's audio".

For the cost of this unit, even off FleaBay, I'm not quite comfortable with a guess and if it is audio, is that to have the voice come through BMW factory radio speakers? Does the unit itself not have a speaker?

Maybe I should just stick with maps. Thanks, rj

The purple is maybe rear wheel speed for maintaining miles when there is not satellite reception (for come newest bikes)...like in a big city or a tunnel. I don't think it is audio, but may be. Just never checked it out. Just ignore it and wire in the red and black to plus and minus respectively. The audio will (also?) come off the triangular plug like when using a car plug in unit...or out of the mini jack in the side of the BMW cradle.

Well, Installed the BMW Motorrad Navigator 3 power wires. Red is positive, black is neg. and purple is neg.. Both neg.'s need to be hooked up or unit will not power up while in the cradle.
Just FYI for anyone with the same unit and hooking up without using the BMW plug supplied. rj

Interesting. I've had three of these on different bikes and never hooked up the purple wire.
