I rode through the night Thursday night Friday morning on my 2002 K12RS. I hit light rain 50 miles out and heavy rain 100. I experienced 5 ABS faults while riding the interstate that night. All were while rolling. I believe Thursday was the last day of warranty on the bike. I will speak to my service manager since the 1st fault happened before midnight and expect they will deal with it. However, I'm not sure how soon I can get down there and / or get an appointment.
I also got faults yesterday morning in fog when departing the Boone Rally.
More details:
Tested the battery and alternator output at the rally, but I was not getting any faults then.
I have ridden further in heavy rain without faults. If I recall I have had an occasional fault, maybe 2 in 6,000 miles but don't recall specifics, I don't think rain was involved.
First fault in heavy rain. Pulled off exit ramp, turned off bike, restarted, fault cleared. Perhaps 3 miles later it returned. So I went for gas, let the bike idle for a while when I got there to get it good and hot under the roof. Fueled up and let the bike sit for about 15 minutes on center stand and 15 minutes on side stand. Rode into the rain, no fault.
Perhaps 50 miles later it faults again. Stop, restart, clear, ride a distance fault. This repeated a few times.
This all started in Ohio, by the time I hit Charleston WV rain was light or gone but roads remained wet. Once I hit Weymouth VA rain stopped and roads began to dry. I fueled at Fancy Gap and got no more faults after that. It got sunny and warm shortly after this fuel stop.
I rode back up into the mountains and it was overcast and foggy, got one more fault.
No faults on a 280 mile ride on Saturday.
Saturday night it rained, but bike was covered before the rain. In the morning it was FOGGY and damp. Brakes faulted right off the bat and I had to ride that way. When I shut down and restarted the fault would clear but the second I started rolling it returned. I rode a bit until the bike was warm and I was out of the fog. No fault on restart and the bike could roll about a half a turn before the fault returned.
Once I got into better weather, it reset fine and I rode 500 miles with no faults.
I don't like the mountains at night in the fog and rain with the ABS faulted.
I searched for threads on the K12RS site, I came up with dirty sensor and checking the wires to the sensor as they might chaff.
Any other ideas? Neither I nor the dealer have done anything to the bike in 6,000 miles, I'm due to do a 12k service this week before I head out next weekend.
