I ride a 2002 R1150R.

This evening when riding home I discovered that my low beam headlight was not working and my horn is not working. High beam works great which earned me a couple of fingers from motorist who did not appreciate it.

When I got home I discovered that the number 4 fuse 7.5 is dedicated to the horn. I had one spare which blew when the horn started to make a sound. With the fuse out I can hear the horn relay working.

Any chance these two items are related?

I noticed several R1150Rs at the 49r rally with aftermarket horns. If I have to change the horn what is a good aftermarket horn that is louder than stock?

Phil,

Any luck in figuring this out? I did see when working on my 99 R1100RT-P that an option for these CHP bikes is a louder than stock horn. I wonder if A & S could guide you in a selection. I was happy with my dealings with Chicago BMW on my large parts order. Nice 20% discount and CHEAP shipping!

I have figued out both problems.

1. Installed a new bulb.

2. Two dealers help solve the horn issue. The first dealer told me to disconnect the horn and see if it still blows the fuse. When I disconnected the horn I discovered one of the wires was broken at the plug. The second dealer explained to me that the plug was very difficult to take apart. The most expedient solution was to order a horn kit from http://ridesafer.com. I ordered the Fiam Duel HF-90 High Performance Horn Kit. – “Very Loud and Annoying! - 134 dB @ 4" - Two horns (1 Low and 1 High tone) - 3 5/8" dia x 2 5/8" depth - Includes relay horn wiring kit”

Hmmm, the link works fine for me....

Phil,
Did you get the horns installed? Are they annoying as promised? :-)

Fiam Horns are great.
I installed a set on my 1974 R90S and I beieve I needed a relay with that insallation. Jump ahead thirty years I get back into riding. I buy a R1100RS and the stock horn still wimpy. but instead of going thru a dealer I went to local auto store and purchased twin fiams for about $19.00 and some change. I did not install a relay doesn't seem to need one. On my RS I placed one horn where the stock horn went and the other on the left hand side right up under the gas tank. They work real well. Earlier this year I was heading for the Bluegidge Parkway, Skyline drive ect, I am moving right along on the interstate just outside Charlston, WVa a couple of deer out of nowhere pop up on my side of the rode looking like they are just about to cross to the other side, well I was going to fast to avoid them if they did cross so I just laid on the fiam's and both deer bolted back into the woods. What really suprised me was it was almost noon when deer aren't suppose to be moving around, Must be those WVa deer can't tell time.

I am looking for a place to mount the second horn. Can you give me more detail how you mounted the horn under the tank?

On my RS there are brackets that hold the fairing on, located just behind the fork tubes. The one on the left has room to hook up the horn, I did have to bend the little bracket that came with the horn but that was pretty easy. The fairing bracket on the right side was too close to the gas tank to work without the risk of gouging the tank. Thats why I used the stock location for the other horn.
My digital camera is in the shop for repairs other-wise I would show you with pictures.
