I'm finding it difficult to figure out what a used airhead is worth. Anyone out there got an idea how much a clean R80ST will go for? I've seen anywhere from $2700 to over $4000. But I've also seen some listed for months and not sold. Is it a case of the owner thinking the bike is worth more than any buyer? I am also a bit confused. Some sellers think mods and aftermarket stuff adds to the value but I always thought that when a bike reaches 25 years old the more stock it is the more it is worth. Opinions?

If you take the average between your 2 numbers, that's usually about where you're at. I've seen good, rideable airheads, usually R75's in the 2 to 2.7K range, U.S. dollars, as an example.

ST's and old GS's seem to be able to fetch whatever the market will bear. I think mods that are intrinsic to functionality don't hurt the "originality" of the bike. For example, how many old airheads have fork braces? Updated suspension? Almost any I can find do. And those mods were done to make the bike more rideable, handle better, etc. Now if you have an old RS and you lose the fairing, and make it a naked bike, then you really don't have an RS any more.

From what I've seen, 3 to 3.5k seems pretty typical for the ST.

What I do is:
a) Look on cycle trader and average high and low of bike I would BUY. (Excluding basket cases and "collectors")
b) Look on the Kelly Blue book site at the "wholesale" price.
c) Look in ON and the IBMWR Marketplace and average high and low again.

That gives ME a pretty good idea of what is a good price.
