Does it take a special tool to remove the sparkplugs on my r1100r? None of my sockets will fit down through the hole in the head far enough to reach the spark plug.

Thanks

My R1150R and my RT came with a long, thin walled spark plug socket. However, I bought one at Harbor Freight that works better. Paid ? around $7 for it. Nice thing about the HF socket is it fits a 3/8" socket so you can use it with a torque wrench. Also, some have taken regular deep sockets and ground them down to fit into the spark plug tunnel. ( Or turned down on a lathe if you have access. )

A spark plug socket should work OK for the task mentioned.

On my particular R11RS, none of the "over-the-counter" sparkplug sockets fit, including the HF socket that most people claim fits. I have to use the toolkit sparkplug tool. I did modify the outer end so that I could attach a torque wrench.

Of coarse, if you remove the valve cover first, any plug socket will work just fine.

This usually means that the small circular gasket around the spark plug hole has deformed and "squished" inward a little bit. Usually if the gasket is new my wrench fits without obstruction, but after I've reused it several times the socket no longer fits.

If you know anyone that has a lathe you can turn down any normal spark plug socket to the correct diameter, that's what I did.

Find a 3/8 drive socket that will fit in the non spark plug end and JB weld it in. Now you can use your 3/8 torque wrench Works great for me.

oops, JB weld that socket into the spark plug wrench that came with your tool kit.
