Can somebody tell me where to look to read about replacing the seal in the final drive? I think it's called the shaft seal. Is there an illustrated article somewhere? Thanks.

I responded to your previous thread on this subject. Short answer - Snowbum has great instructions (no pics), link to his page on this in my previous reply. Clymers has decent pics, but I wouldn't completely rely on their text - Snowbum does a much better job of explaining the job.
NO special tools required. You need an oven (or other heat source - a heat gun works, but is slower than the oven) to heat the crown gear. Tape the drive wheel splines when reinstalling the crown gear - the seal is pretty delicate.
IT IS NOT A HARD JOB!
good luck. - BrianK

Just where is the "shaft seal"? The micro fiche mentions a shaft seal on the driveshaft-side of the final drive. But I only see "gaskets" on the wheel-side of the final drive.
I thought the seal on the driveshaft-side took some special torque wrench to disassemble...or maybe I'm thinking of the output flange on the tranny...

I know you responded to my other thread, and I appreciate it, but I am trying to find a web site article I had seen that had photos. I can't remember where it was.
I'll try clymers.
Thanks.

the "big" seal is around the hub of the crown gear. You can see it as soon as you take the wheel off. There's a smaller one inside. Both are easily removed and replaced with no special tools. Snowbum's instructions combined with Clymer's pictures is the hot ticket.
