So I'm picking up a 95 GS on Friday and it will need tires before the Rally.
Is there a consensus on which tires are the best?

You can't go wrong with the Metzeler Tourance.

My bike originally came with Michelins. I have kept the same replacement tires for 14 years. I usually get 9 to 10,000 miles out of them.

Best? Don't know, but I've had no complaints and I'm happy with the mileage I get. out of the Metzeler Tourance...I'm just putting a new rear on this weekend.
I got stuck with a set of Tourance EXPs and never again. They don't last very long.

How about the new Anakee2 if you can source a pair?
Positive review/description on the ADV site recently. Are you buying from SW Moto?
BTW Bud,we have the same year/model but mine is still with the previous owner in the NE US and I'm still in SE Asia. What color and plastic or metal tank?
Let us know what you decide on.

How are you going to ride it, Bud?
Tourances and Anakees are barely better than pure street tires in anything other than a benign gravel or hard graded dirt road. And are mostly equivilent to decent street tires on the pavement.
TKC80s are much better off pavement, but are noisy on the highway. Mine last about the same as the Tourances or Anakees - none of which is all that great.
Pirelli MT21 or Dunlop 606 if you mean business off pavement!
