I have a Krause cargo rack that i believe is original, 1976, with the original panniers. Im planning a trip from Texas to California soon. Does anyone know of an extension plate that i could attach to this short cargo frame that i have currently? It measures 6.5 inches by 5.5 inches or thereabouts. I can put a duffle bag on it and jury rig with bungie cords and stuff but would prefer something a bit more stealthy and sturdy so i could hold a bit more.

thanks

Are you talking about the small "six pack rack" that extends over the rear fender and tail light?

If so, the news is that you probably shouldnt pack anything heavy, that far back on the bike. If youre going to carry a duffel bag or something like that, place it across the seat and over the bags..

You'll want to keep that extra weight forward on the bike or you'll risk discovering why.

When you put a bunch of weight on a rack or in a top box, hanging out past the rear wheel, it alters your handling considerable. Takes weight off the front wheel which causes a dramatic loss in front wheel contact with the road. These bikes have little skinny tires and need all the contact they can make.

That is the reason why I have never liked any sort of rack or top box on any of my bikes. I fill the saddle bags and will sometimes strap stuff to the rear part of the seat. If it does not fit there, then I don't take it with me.
