View Full Version : System Case Lid Change Outs
Good day. I know this question has been addressed in the past, but... Anybody know of a good hinge system used to swap out system case lids. I've seen the Kuglar Klamp but noticed it's not readily available anymore. Thanks.

Once you have replaced your stock lid hinges with stainless screws and locknuts, it only takes about 10 minutes to switch back & forth.
Can you tell me what size you used?

Mine came with the lids I purchased, from memory about a #10 phillips machine screw. You will have to drill to rivets to remove the original lids the first time. Use the drill bit as a reference to purchase new hardware.
I do like the idea of the allen button head screws.
If you have an ACE hardware store nearby you will find a great selection of metric and SAE hardware.

I have small wing nuts on the inside of the cases. Also used lock washers. Seem to work well; haven't fallen off yet(10,000+ miles).

I drilled out the pop rivets and replaced them with #8 or #10 stainless steel hardware that's available in most hardware stores. You may have to cut the screws to length. I us a flat washer, a regular nut then jam it with an acorn nut so the hardware can't be removed from the outside. The acorn nut is on the inside and keeps sharp edges away from anything in the bags. I change between city lids and regular touring lids. The change over takes about 1/2 an hour. It's not as fast a slip on hinges but it works for the few times I do it each year.
