Since I am a resident of Orange County and a ex-employee of UNC. I want to congratulate Coach Roy Williams for his victory over Michigan State. I have watched the Tar Heels play for the whole season (season tix), and I an proud of the boys and the coaches.
Good job Heels:thumb

That was slightly lopsided, eh Rev.?
Michigan State was a surprise although I picked them to go farther than most in my brackets.
Watching several games a week starting before the regular season helped considerably.
Still, I picked Louisville to go all the way, as did many experts. (Not that I am one, for sure)

Born and raised in Brevard, NC......have been a Tarheel fan all my life. What a thrill to see Hansbrough and the other seniors get the championship. How many college atheletes would have made the decision to go to school for four years? Hats off to MSU for their inspiring run......they had a tough road, and went farther than almost anyone thought.
Go Heels!! National Champions!!!
PS the absolute best thing about the tournament.....yes, even better than a UNC win........no Billy Packer!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely! We didn't have to hear the Howard Cosell of basketball.
I'm a fan of the ACC but unlike Packer, I know it is not confined to North Carolina.

No one knows, exactly, but there are many theories. There are tar and turpentine pits in the pine forests.....that is probably the origin. Some say it involved the British, but I don't know for sure.
Does make for a great logo, though.

Per--http://www.ask.com/bar?q=where+did+tarheel+come+from&page=1&qsrc=0&ab=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzzle.com%2Farticles%2Ftarheel-a-name-that-stuck.html
Because of the tar producing industry, many, including Walt Whitman, began to refer to the residents of North Carolina derogatorily as tarboilers. North Carolina itself was nicknamed the tar and turpentine state. These terms make sense. How the tar got on the heels of North Carolinians is another matter entirely. There are many legends and tales to explain this. The earliest comes from the Revolutionary War. According to this story, tar had been dumped into what is now known as the Tar River to impede the crossing of British troops. This caused the soldiers to say that anyone wading through the rivers of North Carolina would get tar heels.
