A very good read/reread is Blue Highways, A Journey Into America by William Least Heat Moon. He travels around America in a camper on the old "forgotten" highways. Plenty of useful perspective for the Motorcycle Tourer. It was published in 1982...so Amazon would probably be the source.

Great book - I read it twenty or more years ago and it inspired me to want to stick to the little roads and byways when traveling by motorcycle. It would be interesting to pick a few of the spots he wrote about and see how badly they have been changed since he was there.

Another great book, one of my favorites is "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck.
That book makes me yearn to sell my house, purchase a large camper with motorcycle trailer, grab my bowzer and hit the road!:thumb

Mr. Moon wrote "River Horse", another good read. He navigates US rivers in a 22 ft work boat, from NYC harbor to Astoria, OR. It doesn't equate to a bike trip but his prose allows you to take the trip with him. Sue

I just finished Roads To Quoz, his latest.
Very talented writer and much local midwest history to learn.
He lives near Columbia, MO.
River Horse made me want to go buy a C Dory till I saw the entry price! Then I figured a new RT, GS and R would, together, be cheaper.:laugh

...many of his routes are probably more remote now than then.

Greetings Bill, How's paradise treating you? When are you headed back to the real world and are you coming to the national?

Hi Snoone: All is well here in San Pedro, but, its back to St Louis on Thursday to the scene of the crime(s). Ordered River Horse and Roads to Quoz tonight on Amazon for my upcoming planned Blue Highway tour to the BMWOA rally. I still own a dusty copy of Travels with Charlie. Other rallies that I am considering are the Klassic K Kampout in Cruso, NC and the BMW RA Int rally in Canaan, WV. They are amazingly quite consecutive. Take care: Bill

I second the "Travels with Charley" book. Everyone should read this.
My wife is being downsized, and this has been a dream of her's for years. I am currently searching to purchase a small motor home for her as surprise for her last day of work, so she can fulfill her dream. After all of teh various trips that she has allowed me to take on the motorcycle over the years, it is the least that I can do.

For my .02 I would have to second the opinion that all the titles listed are great reads/ rereads. In the past few years I have reread both "Blue Highways" and "Travels with Charley" in both cases they were reflections of the time in which they were written, early '60s for Steinbeck and early '80s for Moon.
Time and America are not the same now as it was then especially in Steinbecks case.
One thing we all share across time though is wondering what is around the bend . . .
