I just did a complete check of the bike looking for a fuel leak.I found that possibly my gas cap was not closed all the way.But wouldnt i have had fuel spilling on the tank?I only smelled fuel while taking off.

Not necessarily. The little neck that goes down inside the tank will keep fuel from sloshing out.

Many oilhead owners (including me) have experienced a fuel leak only on cold start-up. In my case it was damaged quick-disconnects from the fuel tank. That and the crimp-type fuel line lamps are the subject of a current recall. When you next cold start, look down in front of the rear wheel to see if fuel is leaking.
