I have tried to adjust down the sensitivity of the brake light switch on my 97 R1100R but have been unsuccessful. If my foot brake even smells the sole of my boot it is ready to lite with joy. Has anyone else had problems with this premature litification?(I really dont have big feet!)

You might try to move your foot out a bit or back a bit on the peg.

NYRider,
If you are in a position where you are covering your back brake with your foot, it probably isn't bad that your brake light is coming on. First off, I always have 2 fingers on the front brake and my foot is either in 3 positions. (#1) The balls of my feet on the pegs for winding roads, (#2) the middle of my foot over the peg with my foot hanging down to the side of the brake lever for normal riding where I might want to jump on the brake if something unexpected happens, or lastly (#3) my foot covering the brake when going through intersections etc., where every millesecond counts. Again, in the last scenario, I don't consider it a problem if the brake light activates. That might keep someone off your butt if you did have to jump on the binders to avoid some left turner or something.

I keep the balls of my feet on the pegs. It's really the only way I ride. In addition to giving me better control and feel through my feet, it keeps my foot off the brake pedal. I used to have the exact same problem as you do.

A/P my moniker, I spend an inordinate amount of time on the streets of NY. I actually utilize the techniques u guys describe, and agree with the need for quickest response. We are talking potholes that will sink your teeth into your wallet in a manner of speaking (I have disengaged my headlight from its housing on multiple occasions). These streets often demand the use of your legs as secondary shocks.
My front brake does bear the brunt of all stopping. My concerns;
-At times I see my rear brake light illuminating the ground even when I am not using the brake misleading perhaps the driver behind, to the actual times that I use the brake.
-Also my antilock brakes independently control the front & rear calipers (the newer versions I believe disperse the braking force between the 2 calipers). Want to be sure I am stopping in the shortest possible distance.
The ideal solution would be to provide more neutral space in the mechanism that engages the switch and not compromise any of the aforementioned styles of riding.

size 14 don't seem to be a problem. Usually ride with toes on the pegs. A slight slide forward to cover the outside of the break pedal. I agree with the previous post that the greatest majority of all braking is done with the front brake

NY,
You might want to check the brake light switch for the rear brake pedal. I was able to adjust mine ('96 RT) to have just a little more free play before it lit up my brake light by bending the operating lever on the microswitch.
