I left the under belly panel the original color as well as the inset of the tank back around the seat. The back wheel must just be in a shadow.
The color does change hues in light and shadowed light and makes for a great overall look. I'm VERY happy with it.

The bike handled great, it was me screaming like a little girl. I went north out of watson lake, route 4, I think....That was nearly hell but I beat the rain. I don't remember much pavement on that road. It had all the surfaces though. Worst was the thick river rock, that was like marbles, then there was a worser part which was new construction of the road...that part was soft dirt, even drove around the excavator that was parked in middle of the road. I am not sure if I should of been driving that section of the road or the section about fifty feet away. One looked as bad as the other and then they joined back together. That route was about 600+ miles with no pavement.
Then 100 miles north of fairbanks turns to gravel so thats about 800 miles to and fro and just when I thought there was no more gravel I deviated from my route and took the denali highway which was a hundred or more.
So of the 9k trip about 1500 was non paved.

If it's mine that you meant, the color is standard but the checkers are actually decals that I purchased years ago. They went on in 2 evenings (each color went on separately, so the alignment had to be good).
http://www.ralle-bikes.de/shop/index.php or http://www.2wheels4u.de/mondoshop/index.php?cat=KAT166 is where you can buy them.

Lee,
His and hers 2011 K1300S's! You've got to be kidding!? That is awesome and you clearly married well. I'm not sure if there are any differences between the 2009 (which is my bike) and the 2011s -- I did get the cam chain tensioner and all other notices done -- but I'm sure you'll agree the K13 (in any form) is an awesome bike. I'm somewhat surprised that there aren't more owners of the bike on this forum. I find it to be a supreme interstate sport tourer and not too bad in the twisties either!

Yes I did :):thumb
The 2011 has the new tensioner.
A couple weeks ago I removed the silver access cover and I see we do not have the jump guard, so I'll add that this winter or spring.
We had 03 K1200RS's before the 1300S's and liked those, but with the big weight savings on the 1300S we think these are much better. And more power doesn't hurt :)
The 1300S remindes us of our old K75s's on steroids.

I also had a K1200RS before the K12S. Loved the RS, had no intension of buying the "S", just didn;t need it, until I rode one. There are times I get dreamy and think I'd like the RS back, but then I ride the "S" and am happy for the new(er) bike.
Enjoy your new rides!
