For that stuff? Brake cleaner.

Armor All Multi-Purpose Auto Cleaner is good for lots of stuff, including the greasy grime that forms when lubricants an dirt mix. Any good aluminum wheel cleaner should work on lots of parts too but do read the manufacturer's directions to be safe to your metal!

Can I spray brake cleaner liberally onto this area?

I also went over to AutoZone and picked up some Orange Blast...read someplace that it worked really well on the Aluminum, and doesn't stain like Simple G or the Purple stuff.
Anyone have any experience with either or ?

Those splines must be greased!

That stuff is brake dust and brake cleaner will take it right off.

Also, go down to the Honda dealer and buy some Moly60. Clean the splines and the driven flange and relube them with Moly60 prior to reassembly. The tube they sell you for $10 will last the rest of your life.
