I'VE NOTICED THAT SOMETIMES MY HEADLIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR SEVERAL SECONDS THEN SHUT OFF,ONE TIME I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF AND ON A COUPLE OF TIMES,--DO YOU THINK IT'S A RELAY OR THE SWITCH?(1997 R1100RT)

Purely conjecture but it seems symptomatic of a sticky relay. Just based on the idea as the relays get older the "tabs" can either get magnetized, corroded and stick together, or the spring gets tired.

Also all caps is considered shouting.

No worries.

Also if you are in MA, you may want to head out to the Damn Yankee Rally in Heath this weekend. I am pretty confident that you would have fun, and probably get a hand with your headlight.

I'll concur that the power path to the headlight isn't ok. However, a good trace of just what is being the delaying factor is the next pursuit. Most all later BMWs have a "load shedding" relay, which cuts power to many sections for more starter motor power. I'd want more descriptive regarding: starter: before/after enging running, enging running under load of ? (road lights, trailer etc). Sorry to be teschy, but it's still a bit vague to pinpoint.... Best <<<)))
