A Tech Day needs someone to host it. Do I see any hands up?
And what are we talking about here? Airheads? Oilheads? K's?
The BMWMOCM hasn't had a Tech Day in a couple of years. Why? Because no one has stepped up to host one. Now's your chance. I'm pretty sure that if someone volunteers his/her garage on a Saturday afternoon, the club could probably come up with some snacks and refreshments. :german

Yup. Kinda sorta have to be there. :D
I just hope the weather's not like last year's. Riding home through a blizzard isn't on my list of "Fun Things To Do".

I could do a tech day on snow blower maintenance and repair. We could also do a short session on ice augers or skate sharpening if there is enough interest.

As long as it's not at the Hiawatha Rally, I'm fine with that.

Paul, do you even know how to use an ice auger? And when was the last time you laced up a pair of skates?:stick

just subscribed to this thread in the hopes that someone will host.
Wish I could but my garage is not well stocked with tools :blush
I'd like to watch how to change out brake and clutch fluid on my '07 hexhead, and
install aux lighting.
The airhead is just to new to me and I need to learn everything :eat
So a little bump and some hope...

AIRHEAD TECH DAY
Fifth annual Minnesota spring tech day May 16th, 2009
Double garage with bike lift and a carport opens at 10:00AM. Timing,
setting valves, carb syncing by various methods, fluid and filter
replacements, exhaust nut care and feeding along with anything else
you'd like to try. We've got the moly grease if your bike needs a spline
lube. Tools on hand include various greases and goos, standard hand
tools, steering head wrench, exhaust nut tool, timing lamp, torque
wrenches, swing arm bearing puller, $4 airhead manometer, multi-meter
and anything you bring along.
First come first served and the shop will be closing down at 5:00PM. If
you'd like to try something daring let us know before hand and get there
early. We're ready to go after a transmission spline lube but only if we
can get started early in the day. Parts are scarce in the area so bring
what you think you'll need to do the job beyond the tools and lubricants
listed above. We have Dowguard Moly additive at $1 per dose for those
who would like to change their transmission oil (non-synthetic only).
Unfortunately, Jeff Saline won't be able to make it over from the
Dakotas to our event this year. Thanks for all the help in past years
Jeff!
We'll have brats, burgers, sodas, water and other picnic type foods on
hand for the day. We'll pass the hat after for donations to cover the
food cost.
Ernie Swihart has offered to host one more time: 15729 Woodgate Road
South, Minnetonka, Minnesota, 55345
* Hwy 7 west of 494 to Woodland Road. Turn left on Woodland.
* Take Woodland Road to Woodgate Road (about 3/4 mile going south) Turn
left on Woodgate Rd
* Take the next 2 rights
* Immediately look for a long uphill drive on the right with airhead
banner flying.
Please RSVP if you plan to stop by so we know how much food to have on
hand or if we should prep for major bike surgery. For RSVPs, personal
directions or questions contact the host, Ernie Swihart, at
ernie.swihart@gmail.com or 952-934-4975 or the other guy helping
organize, Aric Czarnowski, at aczarnowski@unimax.com or 612-718-0392.

Was hoping to attend one of these, but I'm committed to the Soldiers Grove Rally on that weekend. To bad for me, as I've a lot to learn about this Airhead. Thanks for posting up.
Is the tech day usually always on this weekend in Spring?
Are there any others in the works?
Thanks

We have tech-day sometime in the spring not always the same weekend as the soldiers grove rally.
What is it you want to learn?
What does your bike need?
Have you joined the airheads?
Are you on the airhead list on Mica peak?
One idea is to host a tech day at your house and see who shows up.
The MN airheads have a google group. Go to google and search the groups if you want to join it. We post up coming events there.
If you have questions about any of this I will try to answer them.
I will try to remember to check this thread if you reply.

Sure, I think you would find yourself welcome. If your contemplating an Airhead purchase this would be a good way to look at a variety of models and and talk with the owners. Just make sure to rsvp to Aric or Ernie so that we have enough food.

I would love to own an Airhead someday. Presently I ride a 98 R1100GS and 2000 K1200LT. Wife rides an 05 F650 CS. So I am trying to maintain and learn 3 different engine formats, but when I retire would love to get into some Airheads.
Thanks for the welcome and I will RSVP if it works out for me...

Man, I would love to attend! I have a new-to-me '56 R60, and I need to learn basics like how to clean and adjust the carbs, and how to change the oil. For that matter, I need to know what needs to maintaining, and how to check it. I also desperately need new rubber (the tires on the old girl are 30+ years old and showing their age), so help with a tire change would be awesome.
Unfortunately, I have two problems. First, I set off yesterday to ride up the local market, and the Beemer stalled just outside my driveway. I restarted right away (don't know why she stalled), but then couldn't get the bike to move. Clutch feels fine, and it feels like she is changing gears when I move the shift lever (neutral light comes on and goes out at the right time, too), but when I let the clutch out -- nothing. Thus, if I can attend, it will be sans bike, or with a bike on a trailer that needs some major surgery. Sigh.
The other problem is that the in-laws are in town. Pops is the prior owner of the bike, though, so he may actually be interested in joining me for the tech day. I'll let y'all know shortly if I/we will be there.

Thanks for the messages, folks. My father-in-law and I are going to pull the rear wheel and driveshaft at my house on Saturday. If we get it fixed early, we'll try and head over to the tech day. Or if we get stumped and give up, we may be over sans bike. Either way, have fun and I hope to see you there.
