Greetings Fellow Airheads,
I'm going to need some parts for my 1982 R65LS Project.
I heard some BMW R models have compatible parts - I'm thinking about rear brake shoes, Clutch, Brembo Disc Pads, throttle & clutch cables - stuff like that for starters.
Thanks for your feedback as usual!

Ken -
Here's a trick that I've learned. If you use http://www.RealOEM.com, browse the fiche for your bike. I believe you have to choose the Archive list for your year/model. Find the part that you want. Copy the part number. Go to the top of the page and click on "Select Another Car". Paste the part number into the box with the red letters - "Part Nr Application Search". You'll then get a list of other bikes that this part is also used on.
Hopefully that's what you're asking for...

The main differences between an LS a standard '81-'84 R65 are cosmetic. Almost all mechanical parts are the same.

As you will have learned, the 79-84 R65 models use a smaller frame than the R80/R100 ones. That means that things dependent on the frame - forks, suspension, bodywork - will be different. While the engine and gearbox cases are identical, the insides can differ. The instruments are different, too.

Try this: http://www.bobsbmw.com/
Go to catalog, and order a printed one or download the PDF catalog (includes microfiche).
It's great reference for identifying what parts are specific to what models and years, of course with the disclaimers that only BMW knows for sure, and any used bike may no longer be original.

The rear shoes on the LS model are slightly different than those used on all the other R65 models, but a number of folks have used the regular R65 shoes anyhow. The inside of the "hub" area on the LS wheels where the shoe would press against are larger in diameter than the snowflake wheels, so for the proper fit thesse are an LS-only part.
But the non-LS parts can also work, with slight reduction in braking force - though these rear drums don't have much force anyhow.
