....Use to get my computer to work, as many of you in town folks. My service speed is phone line SLOW, as I am a country bumkin, not in a service area for cable, etcetc...Satelite I've heard of, but is it the answer. Its expensive here! I cannot post photo's within any reasonable time frame. Grass grows quicker! What do you use out there, if like me, living way out of the service area's....I am at the "end" of a phone ground line too, so I'm the last one...Move, nope...Maybe the satelite is the answer, but is it worth the money they want? Randy, I am also at the end of the phone line. Can't get DSL, no cable here.

When I first moved out here, I bought DSL over ISDN phone service. 128Kbs, which was at least faster than dial up. It cost about $60/mo., as I recall.

Then I found a wireless ISP in my area. It was more expensive, $99/mo., but it was also 2X the speed at 256Kbs, and often, faster. A month ago I changed wireless ISP carriers. For $90/mo., I am now getting at least 2Mbs.

I realize that every one of these solutions is very expensive. You may be able to get satellite service for much less, but it has a long latency on every request and the uplink speeds are terrible. The uplink speed may not be a problem for those who only surf the net, but if you are an active email user, interactive gamer or do any ftp/web development work, you will not find it acceptable.

Good luck.

Kind of stinks, being out in the boonies, but I would not trade it for anything. Living here is fine. The satelite here was quite expensive at 750-800$ start up and I do not remember the monthly fee. Seemed high:(. I'll have to keep plugging along, without all the bells, whistles that power provides. Later, Randy:thumb

Do you have wireless phone service available, such as Verizon. I have a Verizon USB unit that plugs right into my laptop. You could do the same with your home computer if they offer the service in your hometown. Then you could get speed nearly as fast as cable. It costs $59/month. If you use it a lot, you may want to go to the more expensive rate, which I believe is unlimited for $75/month.

Friend of mine just got http://www.mycricket.com/broadband/ and it seems to be
working. Not perfect, better than dialup, $40/Mo. Need to be in the coverage area.
