Just curious where the name wedge came from. Shape of engine? Head design?

Personally, I voted for stealing the old BSA moniker "sloper". But I don't have one and therefore I don't get a vote.

If you look at the engine from the side (like on a K12R) the cylinder coming up from the bottom gets wider toward the top. I guess that's why.

That's what I figured, but it seems a lot of inline engines have that shape.

The IBMWR list started calling them Flying Wedges right after the first new series K1200s were released.
