Hey Folks,

I'm not familiar with the terrain of the East Coast/Appalachian mountains. I'm buying a bike near DC and then I'll be riding it back to Chicago in mid-March. Any input on safe routes to take would be incredibly helpful. I'm mapping out everything on my Tomtom Rider before I go.

Thanks,

Noah

i recently rode US50 across upstate West Virginia, and US33 across Ohio, and really enjoyed it.

in southeast ohio, there's a very cool road called the Triple Nickel... OH555 (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4372). it goes from Zanesville to just west of Parkersburg, WV, where it hooks up with US50.

there was an article about it on-line, but with the site redesign, it's currently not available. oh wait... i still have on my web space. (http://www.visian.nu/eMOA/555_ride.htm)

Haven't ridden through there, but I've been on 4 wheels many times through PA and WV and have one word of warning-watch the weather! Although there aren't the altitudes of the Rockies, the weather can turn nasty quickly and you'll find yourself in fog, slush, snow or ice.
