I'm looking for a new battery. I want it to be the exact same size as the stock one.

What are my options?

There are two "stock" battery sizes used on the K75's. There is the 24AH battery which fills the entire battery tray, and then the 17AH battery that doesn't.

Since on later bikes BMW for some bizarre reason spec'd the 17AH battery (the ones that came with the 700W alternator), lots of dealers only stocked that size for a while, and put it in all the K bikes.

Which one do you have? And how exactly the "same size" does it have to be?

It took me a while but here goes...
My battery size..
4 7/8" wide
6 3/4" tall
7 1/4" long

I may be off by a 1/16 here or there.
I would like to put in a 700W alternator at some point, but I'm having trouble finding one.

I was just wondering how old your battery was when you decided you needed a new one? I have had a battery tender on my K75 for years and have never taken the poor thing out. Earlier this year I took it out while doing a detailed cleaning and found out my battery was over 15 years old. And still going strong. I am wondering if this is common? I have since bought a new battery and have yet to put it in. I want to see how long I can keep the other going.

Almost the exact dimension of a Yausa YBL-24 (from memory) and it sounds like the stock BMW battery (the 24AH one).

No reason the 700W alternator won't fit. I have the Yausa 24AH battery and the 700W alternator in my K75S.

Best,

Thanks Don.

Is there a sealed battery in this size? I'm fed up with the acid overflow.

The battery has to be older than 3 years is my guess. It's still goin strong, but the top of the hold-down is has that white acid powder all over it and I want to stop that. Also, I don't want the old battery to conk out while I'm on a big trip. A sealed battery would be nice.

At SJBMW today I asked for a the parts guy to look up a replacement battery for the K75S. The fiche showed the skinny BMW sealed gel battery. Looks kinda small for the tray.

It IS kinda skinny for the tray.. order the 24AH one (think it was also used on oilheads). I seem to remember the price being the same.
