I tried searching but its kinda hard when the search wont let u search "/5"

I want to know can the /5 headlight with gauges work on my 83 R80.

I think remember reading that my 83 has a electrical tach as opposed to the cable driven /5 gauge....

Some aspects of it might work. but you're right about your tach being electric and the /5 are cable driven. how much do you want to give up for the look?

hmmmm well i want a working tach... i just think that the gauge pod sitting on top of the headlight is a real eyesore....

the /5 is much sleeker and elegant.

sigh..... oh well.... thanks!

I've wondered the same thing, for a future project bike. There are some small digital tachs avalialbe that you might be able to use, like in one of those instrument pods that some Airheads have for a clock and volt meter, that attach to the triple tree tops. I wonder if a speedo shop, like Palo Alto, could re work the /5 instrument, and put an electronic tach in place of the mechanical tach? Or even if its possible to add a mechanical drive to your '83 engine?

If you really really really want to use a /5 instrument head, you might find space to put a CableX electric/mechanical adapter. The device picks up electronic speedometer pulses and drives a mechanical speedo but it might also work with a tach with an input signal from your ignition hal;l effect. You could check with the folks at Gauge Guys:
