I put the new rear rack on my K12S. Looks nice. Strong. If you put one on, make sure that you stay deep in the torx bolts holding the old grab rails in place as you turn the ratchet. The screws have locktite holding them and I almost had to resort to extrordinary means to get one out. You can't heat them very well to break the locktite.
Anyway, it's nice. Looks like a K1300S now...heh.

Where did you find it? I ended up with an aftermarket one from SW Motech, which looks ok, but it conflicts with my Corbin seat, so I have to remove the rack to remove the seat. I plan to reshape the rack and then have it repowder coated at some point, but if there is a factory rack available, maybe that would be the way to go............

I added one from a K1200r last August. I wish I knew it would become an option, it would have saved me some money and headache trying to figure out how to make it work and still look decent. My original post from k-bike.com is here (http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15267) if intersted.

A rear rack? Al Bundy once said that would be nice for slow dancing! :whistle
Sorry, this could lead to the tavern.

The above is an exact picture of the rack, but now the grabrails look just like the original grabrails on the K12S and fit around the trim. It is shown on the K1300S brochure here as well:
http://issuu.com/hellforleather/docs/bmwmotorrad
on page 56.
The rack is listed in the accessory bulletin for the K1300S and fits the K1200S as well...or in the latest part fiche called luggage grid. Part # 71 60 7 715 137
Takes about 20 minutes to install. Leave the bolts loose until you have it all in place, then tighten all and install the tinted plastic panel last.

Hi,
This is for the K1200S now...Part # 71 60 7 715 137 lists for 201.95 and includes all the necessary parts in a kit.
Hi,

Thanks Jack
This should make a lot of people with the K1200S happy. $201.95 is not a bad price for a OEM rack.
I'm surprised this thread does not get more interest. I would think there are a lot of K1200S owners out there that would like a rear rack.

They must not look here in the brick yard.

We use the waterproof BMW duffles just in front of the rack area...but now there are more tie points. We also have the small BMW bag that slips onto the rack, and could have both I guess. The small BMW bag will hold a weekend's worth of duds and a dopp kit...might just go with that sometimes.

I got mine for $170. with tax locally. Dealer cost is $130.
$150. option on K13S bike, Seen for $201. elsewhere.
Came back to see this site - been off this site for years - gone elsewhere do to lack of info here on K12's. Now to see if to go with the 51 L. bag or the 19L. sports bags fit.
Photoruss - I've seen your post elsewhere & give a ya hand for your idea of staying with BMW racks - the other racks out there look BAD. What soft bags did you end up using - roll, 19L, or the 51L sport bags?
My rack is comming next wk. I got the rails off already - out with the old drop in the new. Now to look into the rear tail light from the K13. The Monkey ass might be replaces - I've heard of some problems with the firmware & the light plugs.

I wanted to use the 51 L bag in the past, but with the saddle bags, it doesn't work over the passenger seat. Interesting. Maybe now back a bit on the new rack it'll work.

I currently use a large Helen2Wheels bag. It is a roll top, duffle bag style. I am considering others. I like the look of the BMW bags, both the 19L and th 51L.

Before my new K13S luggage rack I was / am using a Bag Connection Speed Pack wide - No $1K 20L a side panniers for me. $320. for the B.C. system 70-100L over the tip of the rear seat - with the new rack my son has more room & can bring adult drinks now.

119240 - from the pics at the twisted throttle site, that looks like a nice bag set up.
cjack - let us know if that 51L works out with the new rack. Interference with the side bags was the main reason I never pulled the trigger on buying that bag. I was leaning toward the 19L but like the idea of the extra space and side pockets of the 51L.

I tried the big bag on the rack just now and it looks great. There is a strap on the bottom of the bag that fits great around the rack so with just two forward straps clipped onto the bag it will work well.
Hmmm...think I'll get one...er two. Viki says I can have anything I want as long as I get two.

That's good news. BMW may sell a few more of those bags in the near future.

There are many options when choosing luggage for your bike. Cost, features and function are usually the most significant factors contemplated during the decision making process. Cortech has put themselves among the front runners amongst the dozens of luggage manufacturers to be considered. This 16 Liter Sport Tail Bag is a prime example of why.
This Sport Tail Bag is manufactured from high quality materials and loaded with features that you will find extremely useful and well engineered.
This tail bag’s durability is achieved by using 1680 Denier Ballistic Polyester outer shell. Ruff and rugged on the outside, yet the inside is lined with a soft tri-con interior to give your sensitive goods and electronics a soft and cushy ride. An additional and interesting feature is the ‘hide-away’ bungee cord hooks. They simply stash away when you aren’t using them, giving you a sleek look and eliminating the chance that an empty loop doesn’t get snagged on any unwanted foreign objects.
If you are going on a longer trip you need to carry more supplies, tools, gadgets, etc. Cortech makes a matching set of saddlebags that are super-easy and fast to attach with the built in quick-release buckles and Velcro® flap.
In addition, another one of this bags strong design elements is the huge top loading door to the main compartment. It’s large enough for easy access to your laptop and will easily hold one with up to a 17” display.
Along with providing a solution to take gear with you along your ride, this Cortech COTECH--bag also increases your safety. The Scotchlite® 3M reflective striping and logo are strategically placed to enhance your visibility beyond what your tail lamp can do alone.
The bang for your buck factor makes this bag a ‘no-brainer’ when considering which tail bag to buy.
Some of its other features.
Top flap, internal organizer pocket
Comfortable rubberized carrying handle
Tour Master Jacquard shoulder strap
Rain Cover included
TPR zipper pulls
8.5”H x 15”W x 13”L (16 liter)
OR BMW BAG I Hearh that its flimsy does not hold contour,, some folks are adding plastic inside to hold the shape???Maybe that was an older version of this___A great, smaller rear bag for all BMW's.
Smaller brother to 51 liter Sport bag.
Features a built in rain cover with taped seams.
19 Liter (20 qt) bag is perfect size for most tail racks.
Two outside pockets and a carrying handle are included.
4-Point hitch for quick, secure mounting to luggage rack or over passenger seat.
Semi-rigid base and side panels helps bag keep its shape, even while underway

Got my K13S rack on today, even tried the Speed Pack on. Will need longer traps for the Speed Pack. Got the 51 L bag on my birthday list or Father's Day.
Has anyone tried other dry bags out on the K12's ? If so who & what size?
