Just went out to start up the bikes. I didn't get very far with the wife's F650GS. The key wouldn't go in all the way. It is not in the locked position. I tried turning the handlebars back and forth slowly; no dice. I tried magic and unicorns, but that didn't work either. She'll be upset come dry roads when she can't get the key in her bike. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Adam

Had the same problem once. Try a few drops of WD40 and then all at once it will work but a real PITA until then. :banghead

Give "PB Blaster" a try. We used it on our truck door locks and it works like a charm!

Thanks for the replies. This key issue was one of many things that put me in a funk today. I'm going to forget about it until my next day off- next Thursday. Maybe by then the magic and unicorns will have fixed it.

Well you tried to put the key in her bike.... In a womans world its your fault... you broke it... now you fix it... LOL . Just spray a little WD-40 into the lock and it should be fine...

Yeah its funny how I got to negotiate the purchase of it, I get to maintain it (and that bike hates me... I can't work on it without skinning a knuckle), I get to keep the battery charged for the winter....
... but I take the thing for a 3 minute ride to give it the once over and I never hear the end of it....
4 months of married life and I still like her....:)

Check to see if the slot cover isn't broken. I don't know about 06 GS but some people have had the little red door break and embed pieces in the lock. Sunlight can weaken the plastic until one day the key takes the door with it into the lock. I believe f650.com has a few suggestions if that's the case.

Voni had the same think happen on her K75 about a month ago. A shot of WD40 allowed the key to go in and the bike to get home under its own power.
But, the key was still difficult to insert. I used first more WD40, then an alcohol based electrical motor cleaner, followed by compressed air and a dry spray lubricant. All is now fine.
In her case it was probably a grain of sand or two that was on the little door when she went to insert the key.
