View Full Version : Name That Rally!

The Spokane 2004 National was "The Northwest Passage". That's all fine, as it makes a bit of sense with the Lewis and Clark connection. The question is: What to name the 2005 Rally?? It is in Ohio, which is known as "the buckeye state" That alone is ripe for some childish humor if you are so inclined... Names? Has the rallly committee already named it?

At least it's close enough for me to attend! You northerners really don't know how good you have things.
My tentative plans for being in the area incluse a visit to the US Air Force Museum (80 miles away), and perhaps a visit to a half-uncle I haven't seen in twenty years who lives over in Stow (180 miles away). That train musueum might be pretty cool too.

What train museum are you guys talking about? I know that there used to be a HUGE locomotive plant in town, but that is long gone. I've only seen mention of a single Shay loco displayed in town.

how about the 'at least it's not in peru' rally for the folks who are complaining about the location/distance thing. :D
or 'beantown west'
or 'we racked our brains trying to please everyone but said f*ck it we'll just have the damn thing in lima, ohio' rally. that might not fit on a patch or a pin though...
using lima as an acronym can be fun...

The Pretenders "My City Was Gone" lyrics:
I went back to Ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
Southtown it had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
Ay! Oh! Where did you go, Ohio?
I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Saw this world past
Like the wind thorugh the trees
Ay! Oh! Where did you go, Ohio?
I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls
Said Ay! Oh! Where did you go, Ohio?
Name that rally? Which rally?
"OH - that rally!"

I remember following a CHiPpie down CA-99 for about 20 miles while he bird dogged the traffic, along with a guy in a Toyota van. Nothing to do but hang back, I had to go that way. Eventually he disappeared in front of a line of semis. The guy in the van pulled into the left lane and took off; I was about to do the same. But something caught my eye on the shoulder... a dust cloud. The CHP had pulled off the highway but was still rolling! I dropped back from the last truck and he pulled through the right lane and into the left lane, right behind the van. The poor SOB never knew what happened.
Y'all be careful out there.

if there is one thing i have learned from owning a motorcycle, it is that NOTHING is as close as it seems.
example1: im asked to go to the movie store and get a movie. 120 miles later, i arrived home, movie in hand. the movie store is about 2 miles from my house. (we've got netflix now.)
example 2: im told we're out of milk. no problem, i'll go get some. 95 miles later, i get home with the WRONG KIND OF MILK. unfortunately i am not sent out to get the right kind of milk. crap. (the grocery store is right next to the video store.)
example 3: did a ~180 mile ride, and it took us 370 to get there! i was asked if i made a wrong turn, and naturally my reply was, 'baby, if i went the wrong way, i dont wanna be right!' trip details (http://www.leetonium.com/leakey/leakey.htm) in a regrettable web page experiment. (i'm getting better at it.)
i think you ought to try to do another 1000 mile ride to the rally. so you loop back through your hometown - we won't tell on you!

First one close enough to me in the four years I've been in the MOA.
Funny about those lyrics though- Seneca and Cuyahoga Falls are in the area my dad grew up in. He spent his childhood in Stow, which is Cuyahoga Falls smaller Siamese twin. Make a right out of the driveway of the old family home in Stow and go five miles and you'll be at the entrance to the Kent State campus. Dad did some undergrad stuff there back in the 1950s, but what's much cooler than that is that Chrissy Hynde was a student there in the early '70s. And even more interesting is that while a student at Kent State, Hynde was in a band with Mark Von Mothersbaugh- who would go on to become the creative genius behind DEVO. I would LOVE to hear some old Hynde/Mothersbaugh music! :p

I can attest to Ohio State Patrol (OSP) being a**holes! I am originally from the East Cleveland area (yep, I'm a born and raised Ohio boy who is now a Yankee transplant in Atlanta) and the OSP are NOT MY FRIENDS. They are the most unabated and uncharacteristic people you will ever have the misfortune of meeting; a real discredit to Highway Patrol men and women everywhere.
To all who enter into Ohio I give a fare warning; watch your speed (even regardless if you are NOT speeding) obay any and all traffic laws (yes, even the obscure ones), and look out for the mysteriously-hard-to-detect OSP patrol cars (they are purposley painted in a hard to detect color).
Lima, Ohio; sorry, I'm passing on this one.
