My low-beam ain't working. The switch is malfunctioning. It is not a burned out bulb or bad relay because with enough patience and fine muscle control I can tickle the switch to make the low-beam appear. I have read of people spraying the switch with cleaner. No real how-tos, just some vague descriptions. I figure that if I have to dismantle the whole shebang just to clean it, I may as well replace it.

So my question is can I spray into the crevices of the switch and work it back and forth, or is there some other way to crack open the switch assembly without removing it from the handlebar so I can spray more in there?

I have the same problem with my 850R.I have not tried to clean the switch yet.I work as a Maint Mech at a plastic forming company. We have all sorts of switch cleaners at our disposal (SSD,CRC switch gear cleaner etc...) I have not done this yet as I want to mount my PIAA lights to the bike first just in case of failure on the road.On my bike it never shows up until the first LO/HI transition. The headlight blinks out,I hit the switch a couple of times and it is good to go.Once I get the beast out for spring I will mount the lights, clean the switch and report my findings.

I used the generic cleaner for the exact problem and got a good solution.

Hey Bluestreak, we used to use a product called 'Bluestuff' to clean switches, mostly TV tuner switches!!
Just spray whatever switch cleaner you have into all the crevices and work it a bit. Catch the drips with a rag.
The switch is on borrowed time but sometimes you can borrow a lot.
