I don't mind supporting sponsors in general, but I haven't noticed any brewers sponsoring anything BMW. Should I just keep on buying Bud?

My favorite beer:
"The Next One...."
Don't like Bud, gives me a headache... I like micro-brews, South Shore Brewery in Ashland WI and New Glarus Brewery in New Glarus WI 2 of my many favs...

IMHO Bud isn't beer.
Having said that, if you like Bud then buy Bud.
I buy crappy Canadian beer but since it's Canadian it's still OK.

Drink what you like. I kind of like the idea that BMW doesn't have a beer marketing hook up. Some HD types in So. Colorado are more about the distance between bars and profiling than riding the bikes. It seems to be an easy connection, HD, leather clad women, bad beer.
Maybe we should try to get a Chablis sponsor?:nyah

Is Yuengling distributing to the left coast? If you like Bud, probably a Yuengling Lager or Chesterfield Ale would be closer to your tastes. But I'm not sure they go that far west yet. I guess it depends on how much you drink, and your budget. Kinda like icecream, if you only eat a scoop, get the best scoop you can find. If you eat it by the container, those plastic buckets are probably what you are looking for. I tend to look for a more local or craft brewed beer, and now that my heated vest is too tight, cut back to only have one or two a week, so I don't mind spending more per case. If I drank a case a week, I'd have to find something more economical.

I was really surprised this past week when I was in SoCal - I couldn't find my old standby beer, Labatt. I DID find some blue in ONE giant liquor/beer store (BevMo!), but that was it.
As for beer, the Belgian suggestion is a good one, or some good microbrews:
- New Holland Brewing Mad Hatter IPA
- Goose Island Reserve - Pere Jacques
- New Belgium Fat Tire
You know, I could be typing for hours. I think the best thing is to try lots of different kinds of beer and find a beer or style of beer you like best. Enjoy all the "testing". ;)

I've always applied that to my tours, therefore the far lower annual mileage...ahhhh, but what roads. :D
Back to beer though...I'm lucky that the Costco sells imported Bitburger beer in cases of 24 x 500 ml. The best part? It is cheaper than the domestic stuff and a heck of a lot better too.

Funny, that only ONE post makes a reference to a German beer.
Thats because I'm there every year and get to drink many brands of beer from Germany, Austria, Slovenia...etc.
Once you're used to great beer, you forget about Canadian beer...and lets not even talk about American beer...micro breweries excepted.

I think most mainstream American beer, and ALL light beers are just water strained through an old burlap feed bag.
I even tried the new A-B American Ale, figuring that they might have leaned from all the microbreweries, but alas, it just tasted like a Bud, with a little more hop, correct that, some hop flavor.

Oh, thats a good one. :laugh
I did underline mainstream because from what I've been told, there are some great micro-breweries in the Northwest. Anything special about the NW that many happen to be there?

For those who live in western NC or visit the area often, you probably already know about Highland Brewing Company located in Asheville, NC. They brew a mighty fine assortment of wonderful beers, with the Pale Ale and Gaelic Ale among my favorites. I believe they distribute to eastern TN as well and I'm positive that they sell kegs. This would be a top seller if we can work out a deal to offer it at the National Rally this summer in Johnson City, TN.:clap

My favorite is Licher Pils (one of the top beers in Hessen) but they don't export their pils to the US. However, through a connection with Bitburger they are importing a Hefeweizen in 500 ml bottles. It's good.
I can pick up Bitburger beer in cases of 24 x 500 ml at the Class Six store on post! :clap Good stuff!

Collecting some revenue (really the point of the thread) from a beer advertiser would not make you or the club care about bars and profiling.
And, I don't see anything wrong with leather clad men or women. This club would benefit from more laid back leather clad folks - but that's another thread.

Had some of their Gaelic Ale last summer when I was down there, tasty stuff.
There are a lot of great beers in America, but most are from Small brewery's.
But I have to agree with a couple of other comments, GREAT beer in the Alps region because it is FRESH!!! Most places serve the local brew, which is transported straight from the Brewery to the establishment, no sitting around for weeks or months before you drink it.

Deschutes Porter is really tasty - not sure if it is available nationally.
Spaten Optimator is yummy - and available nationally. Kinda high octane.

Beer thread. That's about as bad as an oil thread, or perhaps a tire thread.
Drink whatever floats your boat. While I'm not a big fan of the big breweries, they do have a following.
What's next? A coffee thread? Drip or espresso drink? Is it Dunkin Donut's, Starbucks, Folgers, Maxwell House, or something else? Personally, I'm partial to Peets.
However, I don't recommend drinking large quantities of beer or coffee before riding.

Black.
I feel the McDonalds actually has some of the best coffee out there. Plus it's not 3 bux a cup. Coffee has gotten ridiculously expensive. I'll get the Folgers or Maxwell House usually, but if the price is too high I go with store brand. I'm not picky at all with coffee.
I take that back. The institutional coffee is NASTY.

Colorado has more micro-brews per capita than any other state in the country. the options are virtually endless, and cover a very wide range of tastes. since moving here, i have become a total beer snob (and Coors/Bud, both brewed here, are only suitable for watering my compost pile, so don't even mention them as being "Colorado").
Current faves- Left Hand Milk Stout- the perfect hot-tub brew, most stuff from Avery in Boulder- but especially their winter seasonal New World Porter, O'dells IPA or their Imperial Red (only available at the brewery in Ft Collins)- actually almost anything from O'dells is top notch. 1554 from New Belgium is a nice dark beer, as is Warlock's Oatmeal Stout. but the absolute knock-out "I did not see that coming" brew has to be Ten-Fidy from Oskar's Blues in Lyon's. a 4 pack of canned beer for about $10, but it is absolutely amazing. stop in for a draught after coming down Rt7 from the Peak-to-Peak- yessir! (just plan to stay for a long lunch before venturing back on the bike, the abv is up around 10% on that stuff!).
Life is too short to drink crappy beer!!:drink

Never been a fan of Bud in the past, it gave me a headache too. That was, until I tried the Budweiser American Ale. Very good stuff! I won't turn down a Samuel Adams, Mississippi Mud, or any other heavy dark beer that also qualifies as it's own food group. :drink

None of the really good beers sponsors racing because they don't need the advertising.
I've no idea if any brews, non-U.S. or otherwise, sponsors any BMW racing, whether it be on 4 wheels or 2.
Back to beer.
Wisconsin also is the home of Capital brewing, which makes several delicious choices.
I, too, liked Mississippi Mud. I mean, you can't really put a black and tan into a bottle like that, but whatever was in there did taste pretty good.

This is one of my favorite subjects, next to recess and motorcycles 101.
My favorite beers are ones that have flavor and don't break the bank. Dundee's Honey Brown, Killian's Irish Red and Bud American Ale are all tasty six packs under $7.00. (each) Yummy. When I don't care about the bank, it's a black and tan- a layer of golden yellow Harp lager under a dark and heady Guiness. Oh it looks beautiful and tastes great. Extra yummy.

Tourunigo: It's still alive and well in Savannah, Georgia. It's brewed in New York, surprised you can't get up your way. It's not in all the grocery stores here, but some of the better beer places (you know, the ones that have those fine Belgium and German beers) have it usually in stock. A pricey German beer that a co-worker brought in to work was one of the finest dark beers I've ever had. It's called "Spaten Optimator" (sp?). Good stuff.

So how was the Abbey Ale? Very highly rated by a beer magazine recently.
And the Rye beer?
One of the most incredible brews I ever had was from SK's only micro, Paddock Wood. When they first opened they made a Rye IPA that was to die for. More like a double IPA, IBU's at 90-100 (like chewing dandelions!) Absolutely fantastic! Sadly, they only made 1 run of it, never sold well as it's way over the top for most. I put away about 2 cases that lasted about a year.
Anyone recommend a high IBU American IPA?

Love the Abbey ale, pick up a bottle on a regular basis, a real sipping beer. The Rye was good, did not jump out as my favorite, but would buy again. My problem is that I have a beer store 5 miles from my house with over 2000 brews!!!!! Ans this is in a little town of 16,000 people.
I haven't even scratched the surface as far as trying them all, as I go back to my favorites.
For an IPA, Dog Fish Head 60, 90 and 120 minute IPAs are all great summer beers. The 120 minute is an 18% ABV, so it will knock your socks off if you don't respect it.
Try some Mendicino brews too, they lean toward hoppy, with a little more complexity than the straight IPA's.
