Okay, so I asked a really stupid question before about trying to remove the front fender. Turns out my grandmother with two hands tied behind her back could have done it.

So now it's time for another stupid question. How do I get the mirror assemblies removed from the fairing short of running them into my garage door frame as I ride in?

They pop off, I push forward with one hand while holding the mirror with the other, turn the bulb socket & remove from housing & you'll be holding the mirror assy in your hand. just pop-em back on!

I assume you mean pushing from the front of the bike towards the rear? I gave mine a gently push yesterday and they didn't want to the the company of the fairing. I'll have to push a bit harder tonight.

Thanks!

Hey, even mirrors need a little attention now and then!

I think most people give them a moderate shot with the heel of the hand on the outside edge toward the front of the bike while grasping the mirror housing with the other hand.

Just purchased a R1100RT and found this thread for mirror removal, But after reading previous posts I still am unsure in which direction to push. Push mirror housing toward front of bike or push mirror housing toward back of bike? Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes the teacher neeeded to spend extra time with me, can you tell?:D
Thanks

just had mine apart to install new battery. to remove the right mirror stand to the side of the bike facing the mirror. place your right hand on the mirror where the turn signal lense is. using the palm of your left hand, strike sharply at the outer edge of the mirror. it should pop right off. repeat for left side...:D

Knock the mirrors toward the front of the bike cradling with one hand and striking with the other.

The guys are correct, The mirror has three ball screws (?) and they have a mating surface (retainer) on the plastic them selves.
There are two at the back, and one at the very front.
They will pop out with just a little pursuasion.. ANd grip the mirror as you do this in case there are no retaining straps holding it onto the plastic ( dont ask me how I know this :^) ...) you will drop the mirror..

If you live in a moderately corrosive environment ( like the north) you might even get some grease to put into the socket and on the ball to help keep things where they need to be...Its worked for me so far and I didnt even do it- it was on the bike after I bought it from MAX in NH..

OK, Thanks everyone for the extra tuturing. I will be removing the mirrors to install retainers if they do not already have them.
