I own a 2004RT and 99% of the time residual breaking without power assist or ABS would probably be fine. Does anyone on the list have electrical/electronic schematics that would show if I could disable the IABS and power assist but, retain the brake light/running light. I would like to be able to switch the IABS on during inclement weather or bad road conditions.
Thanks List

Do you want to be able to switch it on/off? I have not looked in any of my schematics yet, but wondering about maybe a fuse pulling option?
And before anybody else starts in,because you know it's coming...why ? Just a wonderin':scratch

I thought abt pulling the fuse but, I think I would lose the brake light and running tail light. I got the idea of shutting the unit off from a switch I saw on EBAY. It said ABS so I assume on some earlier models there was the ability to turn off the system.

my 94 K11RS had the ABS switch, both for shutting it off and resetting as necessary.
you can fool the ABS into staying off by doing a quick-start procedure (not waiting for fuel pump to initialize itself), but then your idiot lights will flash alternately until you go thru a proper restart procedure. other than that, or just removing the entire system- i dunno

This sounds like a bad idea to me - maybe your bike is different, but my '02 R, with the key off, requires a much harder squeeze on the brake lever to get it done - much harder than on a "normal" bike with no power assist or abs. I know a lot of people don't like the power assist, but frankly I like being able to get major stopping power with minimal effort, and the peace of mind that comes with having abs.

Helen's 95 R has the switch, but it seems like the lights flash when it's off...maybe to remind you of such? I would think the GS's all had ability...even on a 2004...someone will know this

I've had ABS on my various cages for a while (about 15 years) and have it on my 2000 RT.
The nicest thing is that it is there, quiet and in the background, unobtrusive and just waiting for that bit of gravel, loose soil, water etc that I can't or don't see in time.
I look at it as good insurance. There for when I need it. I can't imagine why I'd want to shut it off. It is like the traction control on my 740. I could shut it off when there isn't snow flying but why? ::shrug
