View Full Version : Portland Monthly Meet & Greet
A small group of us have decided the metro area needs a monthly food event where we can all sit around, get to know each other, eat some great food, toss back a few drinks of your choice and talk bikes or rides or what ever suits us. The first Meet and Greet was a success I think and the group that showed up decided to make it a regular event.
So here it is
What: Portland Meet & Greet
When: Third Wednesday of each month
Time: For now let's set the time at around 6:30pm
Where: Pyramind Breweries McTarnahan Taproom
2730 NW 31st Portland Oregon, 97210

Hope to see you there by car, truck, and hopefully some by BMW.

So there I was, upholding the honor of the K-bikes... Where were the rest of you???
Yeah, where were ya!! For those that did not make it and those that were thinking about it, we had a pretty good turn out last night. Nine of us made it to the Taproom only one on a bike!!!!!!!!!!!! so it was assumed everyone actually owned BMW, but after we got that resolved, everyone seemed to have a good time swapping bike stories, talking about upcoming plans, rides, and rallies. Photos and jokes were shared and after several hours, we decided we should all get going and left around 8:30.
SO, the next meet and greet, sticking to our plan is going to be March 18, at about 6:30pm at the Taproom. With any luck, there will be more bikes next time!!! If you do plan on coming or would like to stop by just for a few minutes, please do. Word of warning though, the Taproom is in an industrial area and seems to have railroad tracks crossing nearly every approach to it. I am going to try to scout a way to the building that requires the fewest track crossings for those that do not crossing them.
Hope to see you there!!!!

If you ride from Newport just for dinner, and then back home, you are a BMW rider!! hahaha Please do feel free to stop by whenever. If not next month, then any month after that. Just keep watching here, gonna try to keep the meetings going and to keep the dates etc posted here.

It's getting to be that time of the month again!!! :lurk Is it Friday this time, or Wednesday again???
Aiming for Wed again. Gonna try to keep it same day etc etc so with any luck it will take on a life of its own.
Okay, it is that time again!!:dance

I posted this on the BMWLT site too - should generate a couple of "new" friends. Our next one is April 15th, and everyone will need some help on that day. A beer & garage tales will be a welcome change.... :eat
Great, thank you for doing that!!
And not to start changing things, but I have been kind of looking for another location. Nothing against the Taproom, but would be nice to find a place that maybe has a wider selection of food in a wider price range so those that want a light snack dont end up paying more of a dinner price.
So if anyone has an idea, please share it, I will check it out and see what it has to offer. I think a prime location would be similiar to the Taproom, located close to the core of the city so all roads, okay all freeways lead to it, so no matter where people are coming from, they can have quick and easy access to it and back home. A good neighborhood would be good too so we dont have to worry about people messing with the bikes.
Regardless of suggested locations, April will still be at the Taproom.

:dance I am glad to see that someone has taken the bull by the horns (the roundel by the propeller?) (the motorcycle by the handlebars?), and is initiating a group in the Portland area. I was amazed that there was no "club" in Portland when I got my bike (2003 R1150RS ;) ) on the road. I live just south of Oregon City and work on the weekends, October thru mid-June. I'll plan on a trip to the taproom (or?) when the weather allows.
I have tenative plans for the ralley in John Day in June. :bolt
Any feedback or suggestions for said ralley. Thanks

John Day is going to be a miss for me. I think I'm one of two or three KLT-bike riders in the Portland area..... Even tho I love John Day & the ride to get there, I already get monthly injections of "GS" - and more from my son... might ride my wife's Spyder next week for grins - if it's not raining....
Spyder!!! You have to bring that to the next M&G!! Charge eveyone a couple of bucks for a test ride and you wont have to pay for food or drink that night!
And speaking of the next M&G, ONE WEEK WARNING!! With some luck the weather will cooperate and maybe more bikes will show up. Spread the word and let's get this thing rolling!
And while we are there on th 15th talking about all of the great rides we plan on taking this summer, those who may be inclined to compete in the MOA mileage contest might as well get our forms filled out and signed. If you have your form, please bring it. I am an MOA member, hopefully there are a few others that will show up. The contest does not start until the 11th, so getting them signed on the 15 will be a good thing. Of course this means you have to ride to the M&G though. Weather at least looks promising so far!

It was good to see y'all. :nod
Apparently someone thought the rally in Gillette sucked. :ha
We had a good turn out this last time, 10 people and 7 bikes! The weather was good, food was tasty, and the conversation was varied. With the weather continuing to show promise, hopefully more and more people will be able to make the dinner. Next MGE (meet, greet and eat) will be May 20, mark your calendars and see you there!!
Scott, any of those photos turn out?
Time for another MG&E, May 20, 2009 at 6:30pm. Weather looks like it should be okay, hope to see lots of bikes there, and people too!

Where has the time gone? It seems like just the other day we were at dinner sharing ride stories and yet here it is time again for another dinner!!:dance
I look forward to these things sneaking up on me, but time passing also means the weather will soon be against us and many a bike will be put to bed for the winter.
But anyway, come on out and join us for dinner and conversation this Wenesday, September 16th at 6:30 pm.

Aloha! It is time again for the Portland Meet Greet and Eat this Wednesday at the MacTarnahan's Taproom. I am not on my regular computer and have limited access to the web so if you need the address etc. please see the previous posts for this activity. I can't be there this month, but I hope the regular group of beemerphiles can make it. Please feel free to join us (them) for some good food, company and chit chat.

I hope to make this Wednesday my first at joining this illustrious group. And I'm considering driving over to Redmond for the MOA meeting on Saturday. Since the forecast is for rain and I'm in serious need of new tires, I'll make this trip over in one of the family cages. Anybody interested in joining me, just let me know. Drop me a private message and we can work out the details and avoid hi-jacking Sit's thread.

Rain is ok, it's the sub freezing or near so temps forecast for the roads over the cascades and the east side that will have me probably driving. :bluduh
Another month has slipped by us. Seems like just the other day I was lounging in Hawaii instead of raking leaves out of my already muddy yard. Oh well, every month that passes gets us closer to putting away the heated gear correct?
Any way, time for another dinner, hope to see some of you there.

As someone who has yet to be at either, anything different between this group and the Barley Therapy group on the 2nd Wednesday?
I have not been to a Barley Therapy, so I don't know what to tell you about one vs the other. I think the main purpose behind each one is just an excuse to go to dinner and talk bikes. Garry, who sends out the BT emails, usually shows up to the Meet and Greet dinners too. The Meet and Greets are usually a fairly small group that gets bigger during the summer, then tapers off as the weather turns. I would say maybe stop by them both at some point or pick the one which has the best sounding menu?
I want to try the BT too, but since it starts at 7, that is a bit late for me as I get off work at 5 and live too far outside of Portland to ride home only to turn around and come back into town.
Don't know if that helps or not. But hope to see you next week at the Meet and Greet, we're better.:D
Dinner! February 17th!!
It almost snuck up on me! The third Wednesday is here again! And the weather actually looks like it may cooperate for us. Cloudy in the 50's. Let's see some bikes!
