I saw a big fuel tank on a bike at the Square Route Rally. I've been told it's a BMW Heinrich tank. It was on a R100CS. see pic Are these still available? Can they be put on any /5 /6 or /7? How about Monolever airheads, too? Now I want one, too.

Dude, just buy an Airhead and end this uncontrollable drool thing you have going on. Maybe this picture will get you off center. :)

My first BMW was a R75/5 and frankly I did not like it. It was a dog compared to the Guzzi V65SP I had just sold. But I think a R90S or R100S would have more umpf! Of course the oilhead had lots more. So, I'm thinking second bike and long range would be cool hence the big tank. Maybe even some custom paint, too. But, the wife says I need to get a new car and furnace first.

I saw this bike at the rally and asked the guys about the big tank. They didn't mention the maker, but said that they are hard to get and that you'll pay around $900.

Hey Mark, Put in a wood stove, and suprise your wife with an axe and a splitter for her birthday. I bet she would let you have the bike right away.

It is indeed a "Heinrich" tank. It's a period aftermarket accesory for BMW's and yes, they are quite dear. Last week a beat up one went on ebay for ~$700 IIRC. Expect to pay $1200-$1500 for a perfect one, IF you can find one.
Personally, I find them dog ugly, just like the period Heinrich fairings. And my bladder fills up LONG before the normal 5.5 gallon on /5 empties out!:yow
I found the link if anyone's interested:Heinrich Tank (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2484824041)
What amazed me was that someone "bought it now" for $700 rather than missing out on it.

If you had gone to the National Rally in Spokane one of the vendors had two of those tanks for sale for $900 which is a good price!

A similar tank sits on the wall at Grayboy Motorsports in Peoria Heights, Illinois. Expect to spend a grand.
