I'm happy to share this from Larry Cardo, and encourage you all to spread the word:

For years I, like you, have complained about how unsafe our highway system is for motorcyclists - most of which can be economically and easily fixed if only someone cared. I have contacted our national MC organizations to carry this cause, but to no avail.

I am now in the process of implementing a nationwide approach to resolve many of the current issues. All the information can be found at http://mcroadsafety.com.

If after viewing the web site, you feel this is a meaningful effort, I would appreciate:

Your support in volunteering to assist and/or,

cross post this letter to various MC lists and/or,

provide a link from a web site and/or,

forward this letter to your motorcycle friends.

Thank you for your consideration,

Larry Cardo

That's well and good but where's the money coming from to do the repairs. Road repair agencies are already at risk of lawsuit so what's the difference to them? Meanwhile, I'll keep my eyes open and ride a little slower. :dance

I can see and agree with some of his points, but it's easy to refute a lot of what he says based on practicality/efficiency.

Quite a number of these issues about road problems such as slippery lane markings, slippery patching compounds, dangerous roadside barriers and so on have been addressed by European motorcyclist rights groups such as The British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF), the Motorcyclist's Action Group of Britain (MAG) and the European Motorcyclist's Federation (FEM).

I believe that some of the discussions these organizations have had with the various governments or the European parliament have resulted in the finding of less slippery paving and marking materials and in less hazardous forms of roadside barriers. It might be a good idea to contact some of these organizations to find out what has been done and is being done over there.

I suppose the MRF and AMA must know contacts for these European groups.

FEMA is the umbrella motorcyclist organization in Europe that is cooperates with both the AMA and the MRF. Thier website, http://www.fema.ridersrights.org/index.php, has a lot of excellent information that relates directly to what Larry Cardo is trying to do.
