My 2000RT low beam headlight is barely visible when turned on and needs to be replaced. The high beam seems to be fine. It looks like the RT has one bulb that controls both the high and low beam, plus a second bulb for the parking light. Is this correct? I'm interested in replacement options such as the PIAA Xtreme White bulb. Any suggestions.....? Thx.

I've installed HID Xenon light kits in two bikes. I'm running this one http://www.alpha-bid.com/product196.html in my R80RT. It's brighter than a PIAA and draws less power than the stock headlight. This Bi-Xenon provides low and high beams and it's a fairly easy installation.

Go to powerbulbs.com and check out some of the new European high output Philips or Osram bulbs. They have +50% and +80% bulbs.

I just use Sylvanian Silver Star bulbs from my local auto parts store. Cheaper than PIAAs and plenty bright for the riding I do.

You might know this trick... I learned it one July 4 weekend. Low beam is out... you can flip the little lever right behind the headlight on the R1100RT which drops the light beam (designed for riding with the weight of a passenger) and then ride on with your high beam on without blinding people. Obviously not a real solution, but it has helped me out a time or two on rainy nights when the last thing I wanted to do was change a bulb on the side of the highway.

I installed the Sylvania HID spec'd for my 96 and am well pleased with it . Very good for night time superslab, low or high, but it does lack seriously on smaller roads. In, fact, en route to Daytona (via Hattiesburg!) I found the single lamp to be inadequate for nightime romps thru deer country. I am opting for a kit to add at least 2 lamps for better downrange/overhill/round corner sight lines.

I used to use the Sylvania Silver Stars too, mainly for the added visibility of the blue-white light. But they have a short life span; in my experience, around 18 months. Last summer, I finally gave up and re-installed the original H4 bulb that came with the bike when I bought it in '99, and added some Moto-Lights for added visibility.
