Please excuse me if I am repeating things already asked, as I do not frequent the K bike section. I am, however, intrigued by the K1200LT. If there is anyone who had ridden extensively on the LT and on the R1200RT, I would appreciate a pros and cons comparison. Also, if there are known problems with the LT, I would appreciate a listing. Just thinking about it at this stage.......certainly happy with my RT.

Have you been on this forum too? They probably have some good answers.

I have a 99 LT with 78,000 miles on it and I really enjoy it.

Sept of 08 I rented an RT and road it for a week in New Mexico. I did not like the RT at all. I found first gear way to high, felt like I was taking off in second gear. Once I got some speed up the RT handled very nice, but no where near the power of an LT.

I enjoy the power of the LT and the comfort. Mine has been relatively problem free, but I did have to replace two clutch plates out of warranty due to a leaky seal. My rear drive has not been a problem, but some people (about 4%) have had rear drive problems.

Hope this helps

Here are a few points AGAINST the LT:
-Too heavy, too wide, can't remove the bags(!)

I appreciate the replys......the above may be the deciding factors for me. Thanks Cjack for the link......spent a lot of time there. Seems all bikes have their problems. I will probably end up sticking with my RT (which I love.....not sure why I'm LT wondering anyway?). I don't want a black motorcycle, and I keep hearing rumors that the LT is now gone. Maybe I'll see what is around the bend in 2010/2011. Hey Mike......you got any bikes?

I have owned both a 1150 RT, 1200RT and a K1200 LT. I would encourage you to say with the RT unless you are going to ride exclusively on the open roadand with a passenger. What you will gain on the LT is comfort, open road stable and smoothness of ride. You will miss the crisp handling, performance and around town stability of the RT. I loved my LT but I seriously missed the fun I had with the RT's and the ability to cut in and out of small tight locations. Some will highlight the LT's reputation of being top heavy and easy to drop. While I never dropped mine it is always a concern in tight places and on loose surfaces at slow speeds. If your footing slips and slides with the RT it is recoverable, the LT you can only get out of its way. :thumb
