My Clymer manual for my '97 R850R says to grease the "fitting on the left side of the bike until grease comes through the bearings" to lube the sidestand and center stand. Can anyone electronically point out to me where this fitting is? Also, will a "standard" US grease gun fit this, or is there such a thing as a metric gun or adaptor I need?

thanks,

Carl

I tried to lube both stands on my R1100RT. Looked in Clymer's, very confusing. Climbed under there and started to loosen the bolts on the center stand, but it seemed like, while turning, nothing actually loosened. I gave up.

It must be everyone else here is stumped by it, too; I expected you would have had a reply by now.

Sorry I can't help, just commisserating!

I would love to know how to lube the stands on my R1150RT. I've crawled under and looked to no avail. Both my K75's had standard grease fittings. Can anybody help on this?

I looked in the Clymer as well for the 02RT and well exact same sentence. Mogo confused also.

My 94 R1100RS has a standard grease fitting on the pivots on each side of the centerstand. I give them a shot once a year or so if I remember. There is not one on the sidestand though.

I thought the centre stand on the older airheads have bronze, brass or nylon bushings that do not require lubing?

Mine for sure has bronze bushings,my pal made them for me.

And I have a Brown side stand...

If you get down under the bike and clean off the accumulated crud there is a simple hole, where a fitting is on an RS, where you use a pointed tip for your grease gun to force grease into the joint.

I don't have an R or a picture, but have heard this several times from others.

With the help of Geof Adams I found the little hole at the back of the sidestand. Still no luck on the center stand.

Frank-

Any chance you could post a photo with a highlight of the inlet?

Thanks

It's on the large piece that holds the sidestand pivot and does not move. The stand must be deployed to see the little hole to the rear of the bike.

I still haven't figured out the center stand grease access.

I still haven't figured out the center stand grease access.

Remove or take apart center stand completely,...,then lube all the parts, and reinstall, done!

Yes, on the side stand, you'll find a little hole (1mm diameter?), use a "needle head" or some people call them "U-Joint grease fitting tool",pick one up at local auto parts,(coupla' bucks, no biggie) and insert in the end of grease gun fitting and put the needle in the hole. This needle "point" will fit nicely in the hole and pump till the grease comes out. That's it yur done!
