It was really interesting to walk around the Spokane Rally and look at all the neat bikes. There was just about everything BMW that you could imagine EXCEPT one of these:

Interesting machine that you just don't seem to see too often. If I were to get an older bike for shows / parades, this would be it.

What is your dream bike?

The machine gun is missing..

Very nice!
I have a plastic model of that.

Actually, you can get something very similar to that, right here in the US -- sans machine gun, of course.

Ural Russian Motorcycles (http://www.imz-ural.com/gearup/)

Don't buy one unless you are mechanically inclined ...

I was looking at the Ural rigs at the rally. Neat, but not as cool as an original. $10k for a "new" designed in 1934 Ural. I have no idea how much that guy is asking for the R75. 27.000 followed by a symbol that I'm just not fimilular with. Anyone have a clue?

I saw a genuine, running, wehrmacht twin, with side car, at the Davenport Ia. vintage meet last september. It was a flathead. It was old, and beat, and grungy. The ultimate BMW motorcycle in my opinion. That would be my dream bike. That, or my R27 matched with a sidecar. Or an Earls Fork twin with or without a sidecar. The last time I was at R&K cyles in Kirkwood Ill, there was a nearly complete R69s in a back barn.........

The symbol that looks like the letter C with an equals sign over it is the symbol for the euro. At current market exchange rate the 27.000 euros is almost $32,000, US

it.

That looks like the one that was ridden in by Choppa, here's a qoute form an email with some info about it
"it was run in the BlackDog Dual Sport Rally (2 days of 100+ miles in the dirt, WFO) in which a dozen Urals old and new were attending." He rode across the state and back with no problems.

the dude is now a dealer for those (well service now, sales to come) in Washington state. By all accounts they have vastly improved in the last few years and with proper breakin should last well, not a BMW maybe and not fast (but not designed to be), but decent price for a "from the factory" sidecar rig.

Moto Morini 500

and none in my garage!

Yep That's me and the Black Dog Gear-up. Rode it there and back, 600 miles after it was in the black dog. No problems at all.

10k for that bike. That is a bike with sidecar, reverse gear, engagable sidecar drive. You can go as low as 8k new for a Tourist model. Fewer accessories, no car drive. But a handsome machine.

I'll stop there as I dont want to turn this into a spam session. However if you have any questions feel free to contact me. Or visit the importer site www.imz-ural.com where you can see all the models, MSRP prices and locate dealers.

The improved quality has far outstripped the increased cost.

That's still a VERY cool rig for $10k... How is it on dirt roads with the sidehack drive engaged?

Was at e Ural dealer earlier in the month. He showed me a bike called the Wolf it looks like a cross between an airhead and a Honda Rebel. He was saying that the cruiser crowd in Russia was making the bike and approached Ural for a production run. After they prepaid for the order Ural cranked them out and the demand was so high they are a regular model now. It's no Montaulk but it is a cool cruiser. I think I would still get a used R100R classic before laying out the cash for a new Ural.

Usually you dont use that until you get stuck. Like 4-Low or locking the hubs on a 4 wheeler. Unless the ground is really soft, the wheels overpower the front end. During the black dog dual sport rally the 2x2 bikes only used the drive 2 times.

Well they aint for everyone. And with the less than stellar QC of the past, plus some dealer who were shoving them out the door without consideration of *who* was buying the bike...led to a bad rep.

The cruiser is a great bike for someone who is looking at a zook Savage or something similar. Low seat. Unintimidating. Capable of 70+ cruising. And simple enough that a new rider can gain knowledge and mastery over the regular maintenance.
