Today there have been a bunch of disconnects on changing pages. About half the time the web site times out or I get a no web page found error and in a very short time as well. There is definitely something not right in Mudville since it is this web site I visit with this problem and not the others I look at.

As an I.T. manager I can say it's always worth checking into connection speed issues. On the other hand, no web site has control over the path between your ISP and their server. It's very common for some of the main Internet backbone providers (the Big Pipes that carry most of the traffic) to have temporary congestion problems. The first test comes from a direct connection to the server (a "consul" connection) to test performance, plus the use of diagnostic tools on the server level. If it's good, then diagnosing speed problems seen by users all over the country gets very interesting. I would certainly ask Scott to check the oil and tire pressure on our forum server, but then again, maybe we just need to reboot the Internet. :rofl

My experience was that every other site I was connecting to was working the same, it was only MOA that was showing any delays.

Every other site was a different path from each other. Just for grins, at your Windows Start menu select "Run" and then type in "cmd" to get a command prompt. From there type "tracert bmwmoa.org" and you can see the path (routers) and the time (latency) between your PC and that site. ("tracert" is sort for trace route). Try it for different sites, and then again the same site at different times. Any time you are seeing more than about 70~80ms latency (the number at the last entry) the connection is running slower than what's considered average.

The last week of browsing this particular site have gotten slower and less reliable for me. It only happens here. The pages either time out or I get a message indicating the web site can't find the page I've requested. It happens on just moving to a different page or trying to make a post. I frequently have to send the post twice to get it to take. This is happening more and more frequently as time goes on and is almost just about every other time I try to move to a different page / thread here.

I am still getting bad responses from the web site and only this website. About every 3rd or 4th page change I get a web site not found error page after the request times out. This is on both just browsing threads as well as posting replies. When the page DOES respod normally it is faster than before but there is still some kind of disco in the server area I believe.

My guess is you are experiencing a routing problem across the Internet somewhere between your ISP and the BMW MOA's hosting company. The next time you are having problems with what appears to be slow 'MOA forum response, do this:

Open a command window (Start/Run/CMD) and type: "ping www.bmwmoa.org". You are looking to see the maximum ping (round trip) time. Then type "tracert www.bmwmoa.org". This will take a few seconds to run, but will list all the hops (router handoffs) between your PC and the 'MOA hosting company. If there is a slow spot it will show in that list. Your command window should look like the one below. Do a screen shot of yours and post here. It might be a good idea to have a command window open and at the ready so the next time this happens you'll get more "real time" results. Problems like this can be very short in duration and a PITA to run down.

There were some "interesting" web slowdowns earlier this week due to a malformed DNS entry that over-ran buffers on Cisco routers (which means the majority of the routers in the world..) - it was strictly accidental, done by an inexperienced administrator. It was cleared up before too much harm was done, but this sort of thing happening isn't entirely unusual.. and it can happen close to you so your connection appears slow to one site and fine to others.

It's this darn Interwebthingie - what's the number of that website again? (Ya gotta love politicians, 'cause no one else does..)
