99 r1100 rt vs 650 or something like need opinion

Here's my question:

I purchased a 99 r1100 rt with 8k miles. It's perfect but here's my question.

I can only ride short distances on the weekends (3 young kids .... etc.) It kills me to see it in the garage and not to be able to take long trips.

I'm thinking of gettting rid of rt and going to a 650 gs or something like it.

Typically I'm a weekend warrior - 50-150miles trips. Maybe one 250mile trip per summer.

Not a huge fan of highway riding and I think I might enjoy dirt roads occasionally.

Would I be disaapointed on a 650 or some sort of GS? Any opinions would be helpful.

from what you've written concerning riding style, interests, distances- i'd say a used F650GS or a new 800GS would be nearly ideal.

Any issues I need to be concerned with a used f6550 gs. dont think I want to spend the $$$ for a new 800 GS.

Also will I find the 650 to be under powered compared to the rt?
